Fernos pulled his hands away from my ears when they were gone, and I bit back a tired sigh while I turned to look at him with a blank look on my face. He didn't say a word and placed his arms behind his back before he clasped them together, and a small scowl appeared on his face while he searched my face for something, anything to tell him what I was planning next.

I raised an eyebrow in question and cocked my head to the side while I studied him, making sure to keep my face neutral, even though my thoughts were going a mile a minute from everything that I had heard to the fact that I wanted to plan something to make sure that he and his family stayed safe. "Yes?" I asked and raised the eyebrow higher in question. "Can I help you? What is it?"

"You are planning on doing something dangerous; aren't you?" he asked darkly, and I shrugged and grimaced, pressing my lips into a thin line. "Are you going to get Caroline involved in this, too?"

"She is already involved in this, Fernos," I said, holding back an eye roll. I bit back a tired sigh and moved a hand through my hair and across my face before I rubbed the bridge of my nose and pursed my lips in annoyance. "Are you able to keep... in touch with her if we are taken somewhere else and not here?" I asked and raised an eyebrow in question while I continued to study him silently praying that she would be safe if things went south with what I was planning on doing.

"I can," he said and nodded. "Why? What are you planning on doing?"

"Well, first I want to talk to Silas and get his side of the story on everything that is happening and see if he would like us to help get everyone out of there," I said before I turned my attention to where the Vampire Lord had gone. "I then want to find out who he is," I added, my voice barely above a whisper. "I think I know him."

My voice became breathless and soft when I said that, and a memory tried to surface from somewhere in the depths of my mind but couldn't escape so that I could focus on it, much to my annoyance and despair.

Pain and agony filled my mind while I tried to focus on that memory, and I couldn't help but groan out in pain and annoyance, placing my hand on my head. My knees buckled underneath the strain I was feeling, and I fell to the ground, grimacing and closing my eyes while tears pricked the edges of my vision. "Why can't you let me remember this stupid thing without being in pain from trying?" I mumbled out loud while tears pricked the corners of my eyes. "I need to know and need to know now. Lives depend on it."

Defeat and anguish filled my voice, and I pressed my hand harder against my forehead, trying to focus on that memory, even with the amount of pain that I was under at that moment.

I had to do this for the packs...

Fernos sighed and placed a hand on my shoulder, his touch warm and comforting, and I couldn't help but instantly grab his hand because he reminded me so much of the man that I called my grandfather and not this different person in a different timeline at that moment. "Stop," he said softly and took my hand into his. He rubbed the back of my hand with his thumb, giving me the comfort that I needed from him. "Don't force whatever memory that you are trying to force to the surface, Ky. It isn't time."

"But when is it the right time, G- Ferbos? I asked, changing my statement. I blinked back the tears that wanted to fall and licked my lips, trying to keep my emotions in check and not going straight into frustration mode where I burst into tears or got angry at everything and everyone. "There is no time that is right. Everything is moving fast and slow at the same time, and I do not feel prepared to do this at all."

Fernos sighed and slowly nodded. "I know," he said before he cleared his throat and shifted on his feet. "However, I do not think the time is right for you to be thinking about whatever it is that you are trying to think about. I have this feeling that it is soon, but it isn't right now."

I scoffed a laugh and rolled my eyes before I wiped my eyes and blinked back the rest of the tears that wanted to fall, grateful that I wasn't crying any longer. "That's helpful, Fernos," I said sarcastically. "Gee, thank you. I appreciate it and that comment."

Fernos let out an annoyed sigh and slowly blinked, but he didn't say a word about my behavior, which was something my grandfather would have done if I had said that to him.

"You better be careful," I teased and blinked back some more tears, and a wave of longing for him and my family filled my body while I turned to look at the man with my grandfather's face. I flashed him a small smirk and a wink. "You're starting to act like my grandfather, and you'll want to watch over me in a more protective manner than a wary one like you have been doing for the past couple of days."

"Hmph." Fernos took his hand off my shoulder and didn't say a word. His whole body was tense, and he looked around before he looked at me with a blank look on his face and a hard look in his eyes.

I took a deep breath and released it with a small whoosh before I wiped my eyes, making sure that there was nothing else in them. "Um..." I cleared my throat and licked my lips. "Well, let's go after Silas and see what he has to say. I'm hoping that he will at least let us help him get his mate and sister out from wherever they are being held."

"And after that?" he asked and raised an eyebrow in question while he looked at me, and I shrugged and grimaced, pressing my lips into a thin line.

"We plan and then Caroline and I get into trouble," I replied. I looked in the direction of her tent before I looked at him with a grave look on my face. "She's not going to be able to protect herself yet against whatever we have to face at this time, but she will be able to before I leave and go back home."

"And will you contact me when it is time to take her away from there?" Fernos asked and raised an eyebrow in question, and I nodded in confirmation.

"I will contact you when it is time to take her away," I said. "I'll make sure that the rest of the people that are there are safe and have a way to get back here before I leave myself."

"And what if you can't escape yourself?" Fernos asked and set his jaw, pressing his lips into a thin line. "I hope that you know that I am not going to come back for you. You are going to be doing this on your own and without someone to help you."

My heart stung when he said that, but I made sure that he didn't know how much that hurt while I shrugged and forced a smirk on my face to make sure he couldn't tell what I was feeling. "Oh, I am my mother's daughter," I said. "I will be able to get myself out of anything, even if it means taking me longer than I hope and plan for."

"And what will you do after that?"

"Get more information and prepare for whatever comes next," I said and shook my head. "A storm is brewing, and the winds of time are changing. I for one do not want to be unprepared for when the storm finally breaks and changes our lives forever."

I tucked my head closer to my chest and raised an eyebrow in question while I looked at the man before me, and a shiver went down his spine when a smirk appeared on my face and fire in my eyes. "Don't you agree?"
