Two weeks later. . . . . . .

Haneul stood over the counter, chopping vegetables for dinner. It was a Friday night and after almost two weeks since finding out about Hyunji's relationship they still haven't spoken. The tension it put on the household was becoming unbearable. Haneul no doubt saw the toll it took on all of them and she was ready to put her ego aside and sit down with her daughter. Seojun was still caught up at the office for another hour or so, giving Haneul time alone with her daughter. Eunji's words, as outspoken as they were, moved Haneul to try and see things from Hyunji's viewpoint. Making Haneul willing to try and patch up their relationship.

Picking up her phone Haneul texted Hyunji, asking her to come down the stairs. The text itself made Hyunji's stomach turn. She knew her mother must've been ready to talk about Hyunji's relationship. The last time that happened there was more screaming and shouting than talking at all. But if Haneul made the first attempt to speak again Hyunji was going to try and be optimistic, things couldn't possibly get worse right?

With knots in her stomach Hyunji came down the stairs as she walked into the kitchen. The air was thick as she looked at her mother.

"Sit down, Hyunji. I just want to talk with you." Haneul calmly spoke.

Hyunji sat at the island seeing her mother come and sit beside her.

"I don't want us to go on not talking to each other." Haneul started. "It's been hard for me and your father too. But you have to understand why we're so upset. We raised you in this religion because we thought- we know that's what's best for you. We're just trying to protect you."

"Mom, I know you think that's whats best for me. But that's what you want, it's not what I want and you know it, you have for a while. I just hope you can understand that and respect it."

Haneul lowered her eyebrows as she took in what Hyunji said. A sigh escaped her lips as her eyes watered before Haneul spoke, "I guess we have no choice but to accept your decision."

Silence took over and Hyunji avoided eye contact with her mother. Hyunji knew she was breaking her mothers heart. Despite her parents busy work schedule you could be sure they found time for their faith and they were always at church every single sunday. Now they would have to slowly adjust to Hyunji pulling away from their customs.

"So, how long have you and Jungkook been together?" Haneul asked, trying to change the subject.

"Uh, we started talking and hanging out when he came to Tae's in June. Next month it'll be six months." Hyunji said, the memories made her fight with a smile.

"Mhm. That's why you were glowing all summer."

"Yeah. . ."

"Does he treat you well?"

"He's very kind and loving. I think if you actually gave him a chance you would like him."

"How long before you started having sex-"

"Mom! I'm not talking to you about that."

"That's why we didn't want you dating. Boys your age just want sex-"

"Jungkook isn't like that. He never pressured me into anything. He never asked me to go further. I waited for sometime and then I brought it up and it was my choice."

Yes that "sometime" was barely three months, but those three months felt like a hell of a lot longer. Especially when you're staring at his abs at the poolside day in and out. As awkward and uncomfortable as it was Hyunji would rather throw herself under the bus than let her mother picture Jungkook in a bad light.
