Darrick's POV

"What are you doing here?" Devonte asks, right after Lewis and I walk into the living room.

"I wanted to ask you about something, but you weren't in the pack house, so I decided to check if you're here." Lewis explains.

Devonte wants to ask him about something, but Lewis decides to say one more thing to him.

"Darrick and I are mates." Lewis tells him.

I'm not sure what it means, but the rogues used to say that they're mating when they were sleeping with each other.

So, I guess that Lewis is telling Devonte that he wants to sleep with me, but to have no idea why he's doing it.

"Can you confirm it?" Devonte asks me.

I definitely want to sleep with Lewis, so I nod right away.

"Well, I guess that Lewis can stay for the party after all. He's your mate, so I guess that he's a part of this family now." Devonte says, and he doesn't seem bothered by it.

For some reason, Lewis is the one who looks bothered by how easily Devonte accepted this.

But I have a feeling that he doesn't want me to ask him about it, so I stay quiet.

Lewis sits on the couch, and I decide to sit next to him.

"I still have to tell you something." Lewis says after a while of silence, which makes Devonte look at him.

"There was a fight in the pack house, and the doctor wanted me to tell you that a few of the pack members got hurt pretty badly." Lewis tells him.

"Was it a fight between the pack members? Or did someone attack them?" Devonte asks.

"I'm not sure. The doctor didn't tell me any details, he just told me to tell you, because I walked past him when I was walking out of the pack house." Lewis explains.

"I will check it out." Wren says, and Devonte nods, before he continues to do whatever he's doing on his phone.

Lewis takes his phone out, and I lean a bit to see what he's doing, because I'm curious about how those things work.

I never saw anything like this before, but it seems that everyone here has at least one phone.

Wren told me that I will get one too, but I have to learn how to read first, because apparently there's not much that I will be able to do on the phone without that.

Tareek started to teach me how to read a few days ago, and I can already tell that it will take me a very long while before I will learn it.

But it's a bit fun, so I don't complain too much.

"I'm just texting my friend to tell him that I won't meet him today." Lewis tells me.

"Dior?" I ask him, and he nods.

I don't really like Dior, but I decide to not tell him that.

When he's done, he puts his phone away, and he smiles at me.

"What?" I ask him curiously.

"Nothing, I'm just happy that I finally found my mate, but I wonder why I couldn't tell that we we're mates before." Lewis says.

"It happens sometimes." Devonte says, and I shrug.

I don't really get what he's talking about, because I'm pretty sure that he wanted to mate with me, so I decide to not say anything.
