Khaotung woke up with a fast beating heart. He tried to make out if he was still trapped in his nightmare or if he was actually awake. A knock on the door made him jump out of his bed. He grabbed a glass bottle from his nightstand and slowly walked over, trying his best to be quiet. It was early in the morning and the nightmare he just had made him go crazy with anxiety. His mind told him that everything would be okay, but the tension still didn't leave his body. Was it adrenaline? Probably. When Khaotung reached the door, he carefully leaned against it to look through the peephole. His heart started racing and he wished for nothing more than to wake up now and for all this to be gone. He flinched when there was another knock. "Khaotung?" He didn't answer. "Khao, I know you're here." >Shit.< he thought to himself and held his hand over his mouth. "Pumpkin." he heard on the other side of the door and felt as if the blood in his veins was freezing. "Pumpkin, won't you open the door for your uncle Sun?" Another knock, Khao was fighting back his tears. "Fine.. You can't run away forever Khaotung. I am really sorry for what happened to your parents. I always loved you like my own son." Khaotung tried his best to calm down. He watched as Sun left and finally felt like he could breath again. Tears were streaming down his face, his mind went blank, he felt dizzy and suddenly everything went pitch black.

"Are you sure you're okay ?" First asked and handed Khaotung his bottle to cool his eye. "Yes, stop worrying." "That's easier said than done." "You tripped and hit your head?" "Yes, for the hundredth time, Satang. It's nothing serious." Satang and First looked at each other worriedly. Khaotung had bruises and dark circles under his eyes, as if he hadn't slept for three days. And they weren't that wrong with their assumption. The young man hadn't slept properly since Khaotung's uncle showed up at his door on Friday evening. His nightmares got worse again and he became very withdrawn. "Hey First, what time do we want to go to Coco's party ?" asked Khao, trying to change the subject. First pressed his lips together. "I um... I'll let you know when I'll pick you up." "You're going to a party together?" grinned Satang and First nodded. "Coco invited us to spend her birthday with her. A former school friend of Khao's." "I think I know Coco. I haven't seen her in a long time." "Maybe we'll be able to meet up when she's in Bangkok again." Khao said and Satang nodded. "First, would you be so kind and get me a coffee?" "Sure." First exchanged worried glances with Satang again, stood up and walked over to the stand where they were selling coffee. "What happened Khaotung ?" "Sun was at my door on Friday." Satang turned pale and looked like he was going to cry any second. "Did he give you the black eye?" "No. I really bumped into something." "Khao, you can't tell me that you tripped and just accepted your fate. You didn't try to protect your face?" "I fainted." "I knew it. Shit, man, what did Sun want from you?" "He wanted to talk to me. He said he was sorry about what happened to mae and por." "That bastard. I'd like to beat him up myself." "Satang, I know what I saw back then." Satang nodded. "I know. I believe you." "But the police doesn't." "Khao, if my calculations are correct, Sun just got out of prison, how does he know where you live?" "I don't know. But I know that he should not be allowed to walk around on the streets." Satang looked at his friend. He remembered Uncle Sun well. And he remembered how Sun was arrested for selling drugs. That was a huge scandal in their small hometown, how could he not have heard about it? "How about if you sleep at my place tonight?" Khaotung shook his head. "I don't want to be a burden to you." "You're not a burden to me..." said Satang and looked around the canteen. "But I think First would be happy to have you with him tonight." Satang said with a smirk on his lips. "Are you trying to play Cupid?" "I'm sure First would love to be the one you lean on. Lean on all night long." "Ow Satang!" Khao grinned. "I'm kidding, I know he just wants to be there for you out of love." "Since when have you two been such good friends?" "Since we talked on Thursday evening. Has he not told you anything about it?" "No. But I haven't been very talkative in the last few days either." "Have the nightmares started again?" Khaotung nodded. "I'm sorry to hear that, Khao... What about your medication?" "I haven't made it to the doctor yet." he admitted and Satang pressed his lips together. "How about if I accompany you to the doctor after school?" The two smiled at each other and suddenly Khaotung didn't feel so alone anymore. "Sorry, it was full back there. Here's your coffee." "Thanks, First. What do I owe you ?" "Nothing." Khao looked at First and suddenly he felt a warmth in his chest. He bit his lower lip and felt like crying. For years he fought for himself. Parties, drinking, one-night stands, just to avoid letting anyone get too close to him. And now he was sitting here with his best friend and the man he had fallen in love with. "Khao, is everything okay?" "Can I hug you?" First tilted his head. "Of course." he said, surprised and worried at the same time. Khaotung stood up and sat down on the other bench where First was sitting and already opened his arms. Khaotung buried his head in First's chest, First rested his chin lightly on the other's head and while both had their arms tightly wrapped around each other and Khaotung listened to the larger man's heartbeat, Satang sat across from them and smiled.
