Aarav

I was staring at my phone's screen, at all those twenty some texts from my friend. I swiped away the notification that popped from the above.

And again pocketed the phone "What happened?" beside me, Adi was munching on his breakfast while eyeing my phone.

"Nothing" I say and he passes me a dead serious look before averting his gaze. I know he won't just let it slide so easily but thankfully he doesn't press.

I turn to find if anyone noticed our silent communication but maa and dad were both engrossed in their deep conversation, on their right were Shorbari maa, Moksha and Aaksha teasing Daksh. Sharan was as usual quite while having his breakfast.
Dadi said something to dadu and they burst in silent laughter. And then there was the gossip duo Anika bhabhi and Iti bhabhi. Manav and Arhaan bhai were nowhere to be found.

Adrika aunt serves more on my plate but I get up from the table "No thanks aunt. I'll be outside" as I was leaving Adi too stands to follow me.

"I'm also done" he slides himself out of the chair "Bas hogya?" (Done already?) aunt turns to question him but instead of answering he grabs another toast and mouths it "Now I'm done" she laughs ruffling his hair.

All the way to the porch he keeps glaring me which makes me stop midway and turn to him "Ask me... but don't curse me from your evil eyes" he just squints.

"Bata kya hua?" (Tell me what's wrong?) a sigh leaves me before I even decide if I really want to tell him at all.

"I left The Graves" his eyes widen as if he is registering each letter of what I said. It hasn't been my plan because The Graves gave me that peace no place could ever provide.

It was a club for delinquents and the lethal ones. I joined two years ago through a friend because the club hosts wing fights. It was a way of coping when I needed to escape many things.

"Really?" I only provided him a nod. Well, he didn't really supported the idea of me actually playing the role of the bad guy. Because in there The Graves is a real hell every person who enters the wing either gets injured to the brim where he can no longer function smoothly or dies.

I never settled in either of the above categories.

"Should I be worried?" I can feel him tensing beside me but I assure him anyway "Nothing to worry about. I happen to beat the crap outta guy of fame in The Graves." his brows raised in question "And?"

I stare elsewhere "They banned me" he dramatically sags on my shoulder rubbing his face "I am by your side if anything goes wrong" he finally grins at me but deep down I know in the end if I'll ask him to jump down a train he would. Dramatically ofcourse.

In the moment I didn't noticed Sharan approaching us "Let's go or we might be late" he passes by us to catch Manav and Arhaan bhai discussing something outside.

Adi jumps towards them from behind "Don't leave me" but they all struggle to shove him away. I too follow them from behind.

Arhaan bhai headlocks Adi to tell him something and he thrashes wildly "Don't choke me daddy" he cringes and shrugs him away "Yukk Adi" we all laugh at the chaotic duo.

One by one everyone filters out of the house. Manav rounds the car to get in the passenger's seat. Shorbari maa complains about her bags to not be placed in the backspace. Maa hugs Dadi and Adrika aunt for the final time and gets in with Anika bhabhi and dad on Arhaan's car.

I wasn't intending to but still looked towards the balcony, the door to it was shut. It's not like I am expecting a goodbye or something but it's basic manners to see off your guests.

Arhaan's car was the first to leave. Moksha and Aaksha jumps in to settle at the back while I stand there holding the door for Iti bhabhi while she was talking to her mother.

All during I waited Dadi comes by me "Koi baat nahi tum iss baar bet nahi jeete to kya hua" (Don't worry you just lost one bet) she grins and to be honest I didn't wanted to correct her.

"Yeah. Your granddaughter is quite a puzzle herself" I sighed glancing the porch beyond. No hint of her. That means she's really pressed about last night.

"Have a safe journey" she pats my back and I offer her a smile in return.

Iti bhabhi gets in after the final goodbye and I shut the door behind her.

With one last glance I leave for the other car. Sharan and Adi were already settled in the backseat.

I unlatched the front door with much force and hopped in. The driver starts the engine and droves away.

Behind me Adi was laughing on some joke he cracked but I ignored them. An anklet sounded from afar and I willed myself not to peek out of the car window.

My eyes on their own drifted towards the side-view mirror and released a long breath I didn't know I was holding.

There she was. Hair open and flying. Her eyes looking intensely towards the gate.

Goodbye Mayra.
