Mayra

My boots thumped onto the floor as I browsed through my thoughts. And by my thoughts I only mean one and most annoying one.. Aarav Parihaar.

And the known reason of why this jerk is ignoring as if I'm some house fly that he wouldn't even bother with his glance. But do I care. no. Not after what he called me. The jerk is too blinded by his self-serving ego.

That night when Rudy came to drop me home was the last time he considered my presence at all.

In the past three weeks he hardly showed up to college or even home. Moksha once brought up the topic after Sharan left for UK. And that was two weeks ago.

I remember it precisely because of Adi or how insolent he became of his unawareness about Sharan's plans. He went as far as knocking his brother in the pool when he tried to talk to him.

Then finally after long convincing from Suvy maa did he talked to Sharan if you consider fuck goodbye as a conversation.

He was brooding for days after Sharan left and whenever Moksha attempted to show him on the video call he'd flip him off. I'm sure by time he'll get used to because two days ago he brought up to Sharan about living together in UK.

Daksh hardly came out of his room after that. It's not like he did show up before he loves his room and his PS5. Aaksha still teases him he's missing his older brother to which he replied with strings of unreal curses that we burst in an unending pit of laughter.

Although, I didn't witness Aarav's inagreement on his cousin's plan to leave but deep down I felt bad for him when he did not come back home the night Sharan left.

Maybe it's because they've lived together their entire life and now suddenly stripping away from each other brings the young child out of you.

"Mayra?" I blinked away my thoughts when a hand settled on my shoulder, I turned towards a concerned Iti "Yes?" I answered obliviously.

"Maa was talking to you" she nudges her chin to the front as I followed her gaze to where Suvy maa, aunt Shorbari and aunt Roop settled on a velvet couch.

Several jewelries sprawled over the entirety of the round table and a goldsmith in blue suit angles his head towards me.

"What happened?" I was dumbfounded because anything happening since past five or more minutes did not register to me. I remembered Iti calling me to show me a diamond neck piece the rest was all blur.

"Choose something for yourself Mayra" I felt hesitant when she shoves me two different neck pieces one with rose gold work and the other with works of emerald in diamond.

"I don't want to maa" earning a click from her I lower my gaze away from her "Maa ki baat nhi manogi?" (You won't listen to your mother?) I chewed on my lips glancing in the direction of Iti who was grinning at me eye to eye.

"Maa mai ky krungi in sab ka.." (What will I even do with these mother..) she twists on her place and looks over the boxes present in front of me "Shh bas ab ye batao tumhe konsa acha lag rha" (Shh. Now tell me which of them you like?) I sighed in defeat.

I don't want to argue with Suvy maa so I just let it be.. the cologne reached before I saw him clad in black tee and white shorts. Aarav walked down the stairs and when our eyes collided he paused for a fraction of second before resuming "Aarav" maa called him.

"Yes maa?" he peeks over his shoulder hands shoved in pocket and utter boredom plastered on his face. "Come here" he did with heavy steps.

"Aarav tumbhi kuch pasand krlo apni hone wali wife ke liye" (Aarav select something for you future wife too) I stiffened, Iti stiffened and even Aarav too when aunt Shorbari spoke in a teasing way.

"Mera mtlab jo bhi hogi uske liye" (I mean whoever that will be) she suppresses a small laugh and so does rest of the ladies on the couch. Even Iti too smirks at me. And I go red instantly.

Aarav does not picks up the sarcasm as he slides down the empty space next to me "To Mayra se hi pooch lete na" (Then you should've asked Mayra) my eyes practically bulged out and the rest of them widened theirs.

"Mera mtlab ladkiyo ki choice better hoti h" (I mean girls have better taste in such) so he did caught the sarcasm earlier. I half looked at him only to find all the smugness pooling out of his face. Jerk.

I bring the end of my dupatta and wiped out the sweat beading above my brows.

"Mayra!?" all the heads snapped in the direction of lobby and I stood in a haste "Diya??" I made a run for her as she does towards me.

"How did you know of the place?" I questioned squeezing her in a tight hug. She squeals back in merriment and as soon we broke our hug she eyes Iti with a known look "You told her?" I asked Iti in surprise.

They both grinned and I shook my head re embracing her. We excused ourselves before I dragged her into my room not minding how a certain black head pinned me with a secretive gaze.

I shut the door behind me as she throws herself on the bed "You came alone?" I said, sliding under the blanket and she flips her hairs showing off his new hair cut.

"I had this weeknd so I thought I'll surprise you" I pressed a smile adoring my best friend longer than needed. "You haven't changed May" I snort shaking my head "What you'd expect in a month" she scoots closer to me.

"I heard girls with crush glow differently" I tried camouflaging the crimson shade of my cheeks "And you're blushing" her grin widens.

"I don't have a crush on Aarav" I say sternly not meeting her gaze as I made to grab my phone "Did I say Aarav" she makes a show of wondering and then shoves her screen right in front of my face.

"He is the first guy you ever posted on your story." she points me with her stare and I go lost on words.

I wave my hands to dismiss the topic as I snuggled deep within the blankets "You're staying right?" she falls next to me wrapping one leg over me "Of course" I smiled in relief.

I'll need her tomorrow more than any day.

because tomorrow is janmashtami and someone's birthday.

"Don't worry May. I'll be your cupid" she hugs me and a mischief smirk already playing on her lips.
