I Wish You The Best

(Y/n) watches her boyfriend from their bed. "Are you coming to bed tonight? Or is work keeping you again?"
"I'm sorry." He mumbles softly.
"You've changed since we met."
"How so?" He asks from the doorway.
"You're lying to me. If something bothered you, you wouldn't hesitate to tell me. I know you have something you've been keeping to yourself."
Dazai frowns and looks away. "Because I love you."
"If you loved me you would tell me. Especially if it's important."
Dazai sits on the bed.
(Y/n) sits next to him and holds his hand gently.

"Things have changed, with me. I care about you deeply but my feelings have changed."
(Y/n) pulls away slowly. "I see. Who is she?"
"He's someone I met at Lupin after work a few months ago. We haven't done anything I swear. I wouldn't do that to you. But recently I've realized I have no romantic feelings toward you, only platonic. He and I have a connection similar to the one you and I shared all those years ago."
The woman smiles as she listens. "He's a lucky man to catch your attention."
Dazai smiles softly and holds her hand again. "I will still protect you. So you don't have to worry."
"I'll start looking for a place. Thank you for the years you've given me."

Dazai squeezes her hand. "I'm so sorry. But it's not fair to either of us to stay in a relationship. You deserve someone who will love you the ways you need. I want that for you."
"I'm sorry I couldn't be that for you. I wish you the best with this man."
"Thank you for understanding. Thank you for everything."
(Y/n) takes a breath and stands up.
"I'll help you look for a place. Do you want something nearby by? I know you work close by but I don't want you to stay if it'll only hurt you."
"I'm a grown woman. I'm mature enough, unlike you." She jokes and manages a small laugh.
Dazai laughs softly too.
(Y/n) walks to the doorway and grips the frame.
Tears slowly stream down her cheeks.
Although she was ok with him leaving her it still hurt.
Dazai walks up behind her and rubs her shoulders. "Little mystery are you going to be ok?"
She nods slowly. "Eventually yes." She mumbles and walks away.
The brunette frowns and sighs softly.

A few years later (Y/n) walks down the street with her new boyfriend and he smiles down at her.
Her laugh brightens up her whole face.
He holds her waist and kisses her temple.
Dazai holds his boyfriend's hand and they both look down at them as they walk.
The said boyfriend smiles and kisses Dazai's knuckles.
Dazai looks up just in time to almost bump into (Yn).
Their eyes widen and they take a step back.
"Osa!"
"Little mystery!"

The two boyfriends look between their partner and the stranger.
"Dazai who is this?"
"So this is Dazai."
(Y/n) smiles softly and nods to her boyfriend.
"This is the woman I was with when we met." Dazai explains to his partner.
"She speaks about you often."
"I do hope she hasn't made you jealous of me. We parted on good terms."
"No, it's more fondness than anything."
Dazai looks at (Y/n).
"She's more beautiful than you described." Dazai's boyfriend comments and smiles softly.
"Words could never describe how beautiful she is." Dazai counters and smiles at the woman.
(Y/n) laughs softly. "You can't spout such nonsense anymore, especially in front of our boyfriends."

Dazai looks at hers. "Would you not agree?"
"I would. And I've spend the last year and a half trying to prove it."
"It took me 5 years." Dazai agrees but frowns.
(Y/n) looks at between Dazai and his partner. "I'm happy for you both."
"As am I. You deserve the world little mystery. Or I guess...I shouldn't call you that anymore. It's strange using your name, I haven't done it in so long, (Y/n)."
A shiver runs down her spine.
"This is goodbye Dazai."
That left a bitter taste in her mouth.

"We should get going Dazai. Kunikida will have my head if I don't have you at the agency on time."
"Bring him tataki bonito. He loves it." (Y/n) comments and laughs. "It got me out of trouble with him many times."
The man smiles and nods. "I'll keep that in mind."
Dazai kisses (Y/n)'s cheek then once again holds his boyfriend's hand and they leave.
(Y/n) watches them leave and her boyfriend frowns.
"Does it still hurt?"
"It's a bittersweet pain. I love him, always will, but I'm so happy for him. Not to mention I have you now and I love you." She smiles sweetly and squeezes his hand.
"Ok then. Let's get going. I still have a date planned for us."
"I can't wait." She whispers and they start walking again.
