TYPE OF REPORT: Issue: Causes & Effects
Mobile Phones at School
Introduction
The aim of this report is to discuss the concerningly frequent use of mobile phones by students by highlighting its causes and effects as well as suggesting ways to overcome this issue.
Causes
According to many students, they take their phones to school because they need a way to contact their parents in case of an emergency. Hence, their parents are assured their children are safe. Moreover, students use their phones at school to take photos as they want to
capture funny moments with their friends. Therefore, they would have something to look back on.
Effects
It has been noted that students often get carried away when using their phones at school, regardless of the initial reason and end up consuming media, instead. Thus, antisocial behaviour is promoted. Furthermore, increased cyberbullying is observed since now it is easier to target victims and have their photos and videos spread without consent. As a result, students feel uneasy and paranoid at school.
Recommendations
Overall, our school is heavily affected by students overusing their phones, which greatly impacts their social lives and well-being. Therefore, I would recommend providing anonymous ways to report digital harassment amongst them, as well as banning or limiting the use of technology at school in order to reverse the train of events.
