TYPE OF REPORT: Issue: Causes & Effects

*Note: if you're asked to write about "an environmental issue in your school" (a vague topic), pick something specific!

Litter in our School

Introduction

The aim of this report is to discuss the litter problem in our school by highlighting its causes and effects as well as suggesting ways to overcome this issue.

Causes

According to many students, there is a lot of rubbish all over the school premises because students are not environmentally conscious. Therefore, they do not throw their food wrappings and water bottles in bins. Moreover, many are not aware that there are special bins for different materials. Hence, they do not recycle paper, plastic or glass. Instead, they throw all their rubbish in the same bin.

Effects

It has been noted that when students do not dispose of their rubbish properly, our school looks dirty and ugly. Consequently, many feel uncomfortable and do not wish to attend school. Additionally, when bins overflow with all sorts of litter, the garbage collectors cannot pick them up. As a result, the piles of litter continuously increase, attracting all sorts of insects.

Recommendations

All in all, our school has a serious problem with rubbish because of the negligent behaviour of many students. Therefore, I would recommend having monitors throughout the day, who will make sure students do not litter the school premises and punish those who do. Furthermore, teachers must educate all students about the importance of recycling.
