Chapter 23: Akame's Demonic Resolve

Akame pointed at Tatsumi and shifted to prepare an energy beam.

"Don't do it!" Tatsumi said.

Akame simply smirked at Tatsumi and fired the beam anyway.

The beam drove Tatsumi until he managed to send it into the air, but Akame intentionally directed it back down into the crowd.

"The audience!" Lex said.

The beam collided with the people in the stands, killing most of them.

The remaining spectators began fleeing by the dozens.

"Akame! What the hell?!" Kurome said. "Why would you do that?!"

"Her power... it's completely on the dark side." Bols said.

"No, that's just putting it lightly." Run said.

Tatsumi stared a hole into Akame, fuming with disappointment.

"Very good, Akame." Drakeo chuckled. "You're off to an excellent start."

"Have you lost your fucking mind, Akame!!" Chelsea shouted. "You killed them all!!"

"Akame, how could you?" Leone said. "You would never do this."

"Yeah, what about fighting for the people, Akame?" Najenda said. "You said a harmonious world where people could live in peace was your ideal world. You said that to me verbatim out your own mouth."

"I did say that... before I met him." Akame glared back as she pointed at Tatsumi.

Akame unremorsefully smirked at her friends.

"Akame, what the hell are you doing?!" Mine said. "Why?! Why would you do this?!"

"Silence!!!" Akame shouted. "Tatsumi. Will you fight?"

"Seriously?" Tatsumi said.

"I wouldn't try to get out of it." Akame said. "Not unless you want me to up the body count by a few hundred more."

"Akame, tell me it isn't true." Tatsumi said. "You knew getting possessed by Drakeo's magic was a possibility, so you let it happen, you didn't even bother to put to up a fight because you knew it would force me to fight you, didn't you?"

"No way." TJ said.

Akame began chuckling.

"Stop laughing!! Answer me, damn it!" Tatsumi demanded.

Akame raised a hand to the stands again.

"NO!!" Tatsumi shouted.

Akame fired an energy beam into the stands again, killing more innocent people.

Akame smirked at Tatsumi without a hint of regret.

Tatsumi's anger began boiling.

"Auntie! Stop it!" TJ said.

"Shut the hell up!" Akame snapped. "This is between me and your promise-breaker of a father."

"So be it." Tatsumi said. "But I won't hold back."

Tatsumi transformed into Incursio.

"No, Tatsumi! This is exactly what Drakeo wants!" Lex said. "Any damage you take will only speed up Lars' revival!"

"Akame, you let this happen." Tatsumi said. "When Drakeo casted his spell, you surrendered because doing something like this would make me fight you. It's true, isn't it? ISN'T IT!!?"

"She did what?" Sheele said.

"If I didn't go to these lengths, we wouldn't be about to fight." Akame said. "I had one day, one measly day to rid this pain from my head. And I wasn't going to do that standing around on that ship."
