'Want to get Coffee?' The text made the girl groan as she buried deeper into her blankets. She wanted nothing more than to stay in bed for the rest of eternity and rot.
'I'm still in bed' She texted back. A part of her did want to see him. I mean, she had missed him for a long time and now was their chance to meet up. But it was just hard for her to find it in herself to move.
'I'll bring the coffee to you.' How did she
deserve for this man to be in her life?
'No, no. Give me twenty and I'll be there.' They decided on the place as she got up and did the bare minimum to make herself presentable.
In about thirty minutes she was pulling up next to his car at the local coffee shop as he rested against the hood of his car waiting on her.
"Hey Hails." He greeted as she got out of her car.
"Hey. How are you?" She asked, offering him a smile as she walked over to him and he fell in step next to her.
"Wait." He spoke, causing her to stop in her tracks. "Are you okay? Are you feeling alright?" He asked, a smile on his face as he felt her forehead.
"I'm fine..?" She laughed, knowing there was some joke that she wasn't in on yet.
"I've never known you not to hug me when you see me. Are you even my Hailey?" He joked, causing her to roll her eyes and lean into him, wrapping her arms around him.
"Sorry. Just.. alot going on up here." She spoke, pointing to her head. But he already knew, and it was part of the reason why he had pushed for the coffee date.
He held the door for her as they entered the café and they got in line.
"What's new?" She asked, turning to face him as they waited.
"You know, just working myself to death. Same old. What's up with you?"
"Just.. surviving, I guess." She spoke as the couple infront of them finished ordering and moved out of the line.
"Hails." He spoke, gently nudging her back to get her to turn around and walk a couple steps foward to order. The cashier greeted them and took their order, with Josh paying at the end before they moved to the side to wait on their drinks. They made small talk untill their coffees were up and Josh carried them over to a table where they sat down.
"What do you have going on today?" Josh asked her.
"Nothing. I'm going back to bed after this. You?"
"Hailey." He groaned. "You gotta get out of your house, it's not going to help you."
"I'm fine, Josh."
"Okay well you can say that.. but I know that's not the truth. Why don't you come with me and help me out today?" He purposed.
"With what?"
"I was gonna get some work done on the house today, I wouldn't mind an extra set of hands." She wanted time with her friend but she also wanted her bed. "The offers on the table." He shrugged.
"I'll just get in the way." She made excuses.
"I think you'll help more than you'll hurt but I'm not gonna make you. If you'd really rather be in bed than fine. It's however you heal."
"I'm healed, Josh."
"Whatever you say.. then you wouldn't care if I say that you're better off without him and he's a piece of shit. You're worth so much more than that man's bullshit."
"Of course you'd say that, you have to. And besides you never liked him."
"Oh fuck no. He was an absolute piece of shit. I hated that dude. And the fact that he made you cut people off?"
"I'm sorry."
"No. It's not your place to be sorry, it's not your place to feel guilty. You did nothing wrong. Honestly Hails, I'm just glad to have you back."
It didn't take long for Josh to get her laughing as they sipped on their coffees and joked around. The time flew by though and before long they were throwing their cups away and heading out the door.
"So?" Josh prompted as they walked to their cars.
"So what?"
"Are you going back to your depression pit or are you going to come hang out and feel better?"
"Fine. But I'm going home by dinner."
"Hmm, I think since you're helping me out today that it's only right that I take you out for dinner actually." Josh smirked to her as she shook her head with a smile on her face.
"I'll meet you there." She spoke before parting from him and heading to her car.
"Drive safe!" He called after her before getting in his own.

"Hey Hails." Josh spoke in the middle of them working. She hummed as she turned to him to see what he wanted and was met with a wet feeling on her arm. Her brow furrowed as she looked down to see his handprint in black paint on her arm.
"Really?" She laughed at him as she leaned down and put her hand in their paint tray.
"Absolutely not. You stay away from me." Josh spoke, backing away as she put her paint covered hand up in a threat. She grabbed his arm with her clean hand before pressing the opposite hand to his cheek quickly.
"Oh you're in for it." He threatened, wrapping his arms around her and trapping her. He backed her against the wall that was already dry. "You're so in for it." He repeated, laughing as he leaned down closer to intimidate her.
"Oh really?" She challenged.
"Mhm. You just wait." He whispered lowly, his face close enough to hers that she felt his breath fan over her. He backed up and let her go to wipe his hands off on a towel they had laying with their paint supplies. She hadn't felt this alive in months as she watched him with awe. What had she done to deserve him in her life? How was he so amazing?
She had figured she'd lost him forever when she had to cut him off due to her exes request but here they were. Back like nothing had ever happened.
"I'm so scared of you." She spoke sarcastically, taking the towel that he offered her and wiping her hands off as well.
"You should be." He nodded. Hailey motioned him closer with her finger untill he was standing infront of her. She gently took a corner of the towel and wiped at the paint that was on his face. "It'll come off in the shower. It's not a big deal." He protested but made no attempt to move as he watched her. He found himself resting his hands on her sides as she worked to get the paint off. When she had finally given up and stepped back he placed a kiss to her forehead, thanking her before they called it quits on the painting for the time being.
"I feel so stupid." She sighed, feeling like she could be vulnerable with him.
"Don't. You're not stupid, Hailey. Sometimes in life things just have to play out. It doesn't make you stupid, it just gives you an experience to learn from. If anyone's stupid it's him, I promise you."
"But I let him ruin friendships and.. alot of things in my life."
"No. He tried to ruin things, but he didn't. Where am I right now?"
"At your house..?"
"Yes. But no. I'm with you Hailey, I'm right here. He didn't ruin this. He didn't ruin things with Ricky either. You've still got us. He tried, but he failed." As Josh cleaned his face at his bathroom sink, Hailey sat on the counter beside him. "And for the little things that he did fuck up, it's not a big deal. We're going to rebuild and it'll be good as new." Once the paint was off and he had dried his face he wedged himself in between her knees as she still sat on the countertop.
"You are a fucking badass. There's nothing in this world that you can't get through, including his bullshit. It sucks for him that he's missing out on all of this, but it's his loss." Josh spoke, cupping her face in his hands so she had no choice but to focus on him and his words. Josh had always been her cheerleader. Even in times where she didn't believe in herself, he always did.
Everyone deserves a friend like that and she felt lucky to have found hers.
"Now, what do you say we get some dinner and call it a night?" He proposed. With that they headed to their favorite pizza place.
She had been so set on wanting to be in bed earlier in the day, but now that she had spent time with him she didn't really want to even go home.
So the drive back to his place after dinner wasn't exactly happy.
"What did I do?" Josh asked as they pulled up to the house.
"Nothing."
"You were fine and now you're not. What's up?"
"I...- forget it. It's nothing."
"Oh my love. You know you can't do that to me. You have to tell me now."
"I don't want our night to end." She admitted, grabbing the handle to get out of the car untill he reached over and put his hand on her arm.
"It doesn't have to. You were the only one who set us a curfew. Stay. We can watch a movie or just hang out. Stay as long as you want to." And so she did. After heading inside Josh put on a movie in the livingroom and they settled in on the couch. She wasn't planning to end up snuggled up under his arm but she also didn't plan on falling asleep on him. But that didn't stop both of those things from happening.
