"Can you two please just stop?!" The girl yelled as she stood beside the two men. "I get it, you two don't get along anymore, but you're both here for me. So can we please just try?"
"Aura -" The shorter man started before the girl cut him off by putting her palm up towards him. She knew the tone, and she was done.
"Just fucking forget it." As she turned to walk away both men called after her, but she made no move to stop. The taller man let out a sigh when she was no longer in view.
"This is her night. We don't have to like each other but we're both just here to support her." Chris spoke.
"Agreed." Josh put his hand out for a truce. After shaking on it, the shorter man started to head in the direction the female had went. "I'll go find her." Josh made his way through the hallways, passing all of the people that crowded the house.
He found her in the kitchen, leaning on the counter with a glass in hand.
"Hey~" He soothingly drew out, resting a hand on her back as he reached around her to take the glass out of her hand. "We're not doing this." He sat the glass out of reach before turning her to face him. The tears in her eyes made him feel bad. "Chris and I are gonna play nice, but you're not gonna drink just because tonight's not going the way you wanted."
"You guys drive me nuts." She spoke quietly, the upset more than clear in her voice.
"I'm sorry, my love. But we're both here because we love you and we want to support you." As he wrapped his arms around the girl he placed a kiss on her forehead. "Let's get back to your party, Chris and I are good." As she reached for her cup, Josh pushed it further away. "You can have a drink when you're not feeling upset, but I'm not gonna stand here and let you go down that road." He knew his girl. She had once used alcohol as her crutch and landed herself in a very dark place. It wasn't happening again on his watch, ever again. They headed back to the main room of the house, Josh getting pulled to the side by a friend who hadn't seen him in a while. Chris was still in the same spot she had left him and he offered her a small smile when their eyes met.
"I'm sorry. I wasn't trying to ruin your night." Chris apologized as she reached him.
"I just really wish you guys got along. It's so hard when you both mean so much to me but I can't ever have you guys together."
"Listen, I can put shit in the past and do it for you."
"Thanks." She spoke quietly, still not sounding too convinced.
"Aura, I love you, okay? I'm here to celebrate you and I can get along with him for the night." He just wanted her mood to return to the happy version of herself that she had been an hour ago.
"Sorry, baby. Had to catch up." Josh spoke as he joined them and put his hands on her hips as he stood behind her. She hated the feeling of tension in the air whenever these two men were in the same room. She missed the old days when they got along once upon a time.
"Its fine. Go, do whatever you wanna do." She waved him off with her hand. "Make buisness connections, go chat it up with friends. I honestly just don't care anymore." She was tired of trying. She had been excited for tonight but it had already been going south for the past hour and she didn't see it getting any better. As she moved out of his grip she turned away from the men, and once again walked away.
"What was that?" Josh asked, assuming Chris had something to do with her attitude.
"I don't know, but I got her this time." Chris offered as he started to follow after the girl.
"No, she's my girlfriend. I've got it."
"Josh, you're not seemingly helping any. Let me at least try and see if I can help." Even though the girl had just made it past the hallway, she could hear as their voices raised and she rolled her eyes. Here we go again.
As she made it into the kitchen she grabbed her half empty glass that she had left and downed the rest in a few sips before making herself another drink.
With a full glass in her hand she made her way out to the back garden and sat down on a lawn chair.
She was suppose to be inside celebrating her achievements but suddenly she didn't care anymore. The peace and quiet was a million times better. She ended up lost in her thoughts for what felt like an eternity before a soft voice brought her back.
"There you are..." He sounded relieved as he closed the door behind him and made his way to her. "So? Spill it. What's up? Because it's clear there's something more that's bothering you."
"I'm tired Chris. I'm really fucking tired." She spoke, her tone angry towards the end. "You two are so fucking ridiculous and this whole party was a stupid idea. You wanna celebrate me for once? We should've done dinner. That way there wouldn't be a million fucking people in a house who care about you guys more than the person they fucking showed up for. I'm tired of being over shadowed. I love the band and everything else you guys have had success in, I really do. But for once, Just once, something was suppose to be about me and suddenly it's all about Chris and Josh. I just want my normal life back. When people didn't use me to get to you guys. When no one gave a fuck who any of us were." By the end Aura had stood and began to walk away, but Chris grabbed her wrist.
"Aura, no. You're not going to spill all of that and just walk away. That's not how this works. This is a conversation, you don't just get to decide you're done after you drop all of that. Sit." He was firm with the girl but made sure not to cross any lines. She shook her head before finishing off her drink, which she had already downed most of when she was lost in her thoughts.
"R, You know how we all feel about that." Chris sighed, taking the empty cup from her hand as he spoke in a disappointed tone.
"And for once I don't give a fuck. Its my body, my choices. It doesn't affect anyone else."
"Except when we all have to pull you out of the grave you've dug for yourself right? Except when your three bestfriends have to spent a sleepless night in a hospital wondering if you're going to pull through? Aura, we're not doing this again." Chris' words were close to Josh's as she scoffed.
"Chris, I don't care. I'm done. This is done. I'm done talking." She quickly stormed back in the house, slamming the door behind her as she headed upstairs and grabbed her keys from her bedroom.
Of course she didn't make it out of the house without people questioning her, but she had avoided the two men that she needed to and made it out to the driveway.
"Aura! Where you goin'?" A voice called from the porch. She paused next to the black Infinity sports car as her hand rested on the door handle.
"I just need a minute to think straight. I'll be back." She spoke, but wasn't sure whether she was lying to him or being honest. Part of her just wanted to run away for the rest of the night. By now Ricky had walked down the steps and stood a few feet away from her.
"Everything okay?" He asked, his voice soft and comforting just like Ricky had always been. She closed her eyes and took in a breath. She was the type that was always fine.. untill someone asked if she was okay and then the dam would break whether she wanted it to or not.
"I'm good, Rick. I just need a minute." She breathed out, looking away from him in an attempt to hide her feelings.
"R, don't drive like that." His voice was quiet as he stepped closer and gently took her keys, wiping a tear from her face when she had finally looked at him.
"Aura, we're not done here. You're not going anywhere." Chris' voice spoke from the porch. She rolled her eyes as she let out an angry sigh.
"I need space, Chris. You two are fucking killing me tonight and I can't do this right now." She tried to keep her composure but she was starting to lose it.
"I don't know what's going on, but dude, I don't think it's that important that it can't wait. Aura, if you really want to leave I'll drive you but these are mine now." He slid her keys into the pocket of his hoodie.
"Really Aura? You were just gonna drive after downing that drink? I thought we were past the reckless decisions." Chris sighed.
"Please, just leave me alone right now." She hit her breaking point as tears fell down her cheeks. She looked to Ricky in a desperate panic as he nodded his head towards his own vehicle.
"C'mon. Let's go." He reached for her hand before turning to Chris. "Let Josh know she's going on a drive with me. I'll bring her back." He didn't wait for a response before leading her over to his vehicle and opening the door for her.
As he climbed into the drivers seat the car was filled with her pained sobs.
"R, c'mon. What's the matter?" He started the car and quickly turned the music down as Deftones blasted through his speakers.
"I'm so tired of everything right now. Those two can't fucking get along, even for me. This night was suppose to be my party but all anyone ever cares about is Josh, Chris, and you. And I'm fine not getting all of the attention you guys do but for once something was suppose to be about me and it hasn't been like that all night. I'm so tired. I just want my old life back."
"But we've all known that's just them. Has been for the last seven years. I'm not excusing it, they're grown and more than capable of putting their differences aside for you. But I get it, they're both important to you and that's gotta be difficult."
"I'm just so tired, Ricky." The girl had been through alot the last few years and no one could blame her for feeling that way.
"But you're not giving up on me." He spoke firmly. "Especially not tonight and not over all of this. We've come too far and I speak for the those two and myself when I say we're not losing you. Not now and not ever." The man had personally stood at the girls hospital bed as he told her a goodbye once. The doctors weren't sure they were going to be able to save her and had advised everyone to see her just in case. It's something Ricky would never forget as long as he lived. Standing over her body as he recalled memories of them all together, telling her how much he loved her and that he would be joining her at some point if this was really it. He had cried over her as he held her hand and begged her to stay with them.
And they weren't going to lose her now. They had come too far. Ricky wasn't sure if her attempt at taking a drive had darker motives of if she had good intentions but he was glad he caught her nonetheless. She didn't need to be upset alone. They drove for hours untill it had began pouring rain around eleven and so they began the drive back.
By the time they pulled up at the house the rain had lulled her into a peaceful sleep so Ricky called Josh to come out and carry her in. Of course the alcohol had played a part in all of this, though Ricky knew nothing of it.
"Thanks for taking care of her." Josh spoke as he laid the girl in bed. Ricky stood in the doorway as Chris sat down on the chair that was in the corner of their room. Josh took her shoes off before covering her up.
"Always." They were all inseparable with her. After going through so much together it had really bonded them.
"I'm worried about her." Chris spoke up.
"Yeah.. yeah, me too. I feel like she's going backwards and I don't know if she even cares to stop it sometimes." Josh sighed as he sat down on the edge of the bed.
"Her drinking definitely isn't a good sign." Chris hated alcohol. All of guys did. They all shared the same status.
"She's been drinking again?" Ricky asked.
"I already put my foot down on it and took the drink away. I don't have a problem with her having a glass of wine or a drink for an occasion but I feel like alcohol is a slippery slop for her and we're not going down it."
"Well she had another before she left. I would've taken it if I would've caught her sooner but it was already downed." Chris told Josh.
"I love this girl more than I love anything but sometimes I wonder if maybe her life would've been better without all of us." Josh sighed, playing with the girls hair as she slept.
"No. You can't think like that. Come on dude, this shit was fate. You don't make connections like this everyday. I think she's here because of all of us and probably the other way around." Ricky talked sense into him. He personally could remember countless times where he was at his lowest and she helped pull him through.
They all had went through some of their darkest times together with her.
"You know, you two have to admit that she is right about one thing though... this party was suppose to be for her and you two couldn't prioritize that." Ricky knew neither of them were gonna like hearing the truth but he didn't care.
"I know. I fucked up... we both did. We were going to fix it for her sake but then everything happened."
"But it shouldn't have even happened in the first place. You leave the bullshit at the door and celebrate the girls achievement. I mean come on, this was a huge deal for her." After years of being too scared to make big moves and doubting herself she had finally opened up her own tattoo shop and the party was suppose to be in celebration.
"We owe her." Josh nodded.
"Big time." Chris agreed, looking at the other man. As the girl stirred they all looked in her direction. Josh stopped playing with her hair to hold her hand instead. She tightened her grip before her eyes fluttered open and landed on him.
"Go back to sleep, baby." His voice was soft. She furrowed her brows as she removed her hand from his. "Still mad at us?" Josh sighed.
"My whole night was a disaster. Sometimes I wish I didn't know any of you."
"Aura, stop. You know you don't mean that." Ricky spoke, knowing that he was the one on the best terms with her out of the three of them.
"Angel..." Josh sighed, his heart hurting from his words. "Baby, I'm sorry."
"I wouldn't change a single thing, R. Despite everything we've all been through together if I could go back in time I'd go through it all again just to have you. I love you, I think you're the bestest friend anyone could ever ask for and I'm grateful.' Chris told her. That would never change.
"We know we were wrong. We should've tried harder and we're sorry." Josh spoke for the both of them, taking her hand back in his.
"And we owe you a peaceful dinner celebration so clear your plans for tomorrow." Chris added. Her accomplishment wasn't going to go ignored.
"Are you two actually going to get along? Because if not, then just forget it."
"Nope. We got you, R. Let us show you how important you are to us." Chris just wanted to see her happy. They all did. Which is why the next evening they all dressed up and went out. As Josh pulled up to the restraunt he led the girl in, only to be greeted by Chris standing at the door with a bouquet of roses which he handed to her as he kissed the top of her head. The three men all wore black button ups and dress pants. They were serious when they said they intended to make it up to her.
