"Good luck. She won't talk to any of us." Ryan spoke after letting out a cloud of smoke from his vape he had hit. Chris wasn't surprised. That was her coping mechanism.. but he also knew that she always bottled up her anger and emotions, so the hard part wasn't going to be getting her to talk. The hard part was going to be watching her inevitably let out all of those emotions. He wasn't sure he wanted to see her like that but this wasn't about him.
He knocked on the bedroom door before slowly opening it. She didn't move an inch from her spot as she laid in his bed. Of course she had chosen his bed to seek comfort from.
"Hey." He greeted softly, letting himself in before closing the door behind him. "Listen I know you're not in the mood to talk right now, and that's okay. But I just want you to know that I'm right here.. and whenever you're ready to talk I'm all ears. I'm sorry I wasn't here when you needed me, but I'm back now."
The angry look she shot him didn't scare him the slightest, but the puffy eyes and flushed cheeks broke his heart.
He regretted going on that trip. But how was he suppose to know that her world was going to fall apart while he was away? He had hurried back as soon as he had gotten the news from their friends.
And Chris was admittedly flattered to be her lifeline -even though it was a huge responsibility. It meant alot to him that he was her go to person.
"I know baby, I know." He spoke, sitting down next to her. "Daddy's awful." He knew that getting a laugh out of her just wasn't going to happen, but it didn't hurt to try. "He's the worst." He finished as he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her against his body. The silent treatment didn't throw him off as he had expected it. She would talk when she was ready, for now he just needed to be there for her.
All she needed was for someone to sit in the silence with her and keep her company in the dark. Someone to share the weight that was on her shoulders and ease just the slightest bit of her pain. Someone who made all of this feel a little less lonely.
As she laid pressed against his body, a quiet sob was heard as she began to let it all out.
This was going to be a long night for the both of them.
"I know angel, I know." He soothed as he rubbed her back. "I'm so sorry baby." Besides being away when everything happened he really had nothing to feel bad for... But still the guilt swallowed him alive. The guilt that was suppose to be felt by someone else but he was sure they didn't have that emotion anywhere in their body.
"Daddy." She sobbed into his chest, clutching at his shirt as her tears caused it to become damp. He held her even tighter as he hushed her and rocked her in his arms. He was angry that this was where they had ended up at but it wasn't any fault of hers so he couldnt let the anger show. She didn't need it anyways. He was sure she had anger of her own and knew that at some point they were going to have to find a healthy way to get it all out.
Chris hated seeing his bestfriend like this but knew that no one else could handle her like he could. For as long as they'd known each other they had always been magnets that were drawn towards each other.
They had always been inseparable, even when one would enter a relationship which had definitely caused issues in the past. None of their partners had really ever been okay with how close the two were. But it didn't matter as things never worked out with those people anyways. Which brought them to here.
The breakups. The pain. The feelings that only the other could get each other through. And now it was Chris' turn to take care of her while she tried to heal.
"Daddy's right here. I've got you baby." He whispered, holding her close. The tears brought on sobs which eventually brought on screams that stabbed at his chest like a dagger. He knew the feeling, he knew how the girl was hurting.
Her small body curled up against his as she held onto his shirt with her fists. His arms were wrapped around her in a protective embrace.
She cried untill she had no tears left and her throat burned. Chris found himself wide awake at one in the morning as she stared off with an empty look in her eyes. Her face was puffy, eyes red, as hair stuck to her face from drying with the tears. Her lips parted as she sucked in air and she seemed like she wasn't even there.
"You want to get a bath and try to get some sleep?" Chris asked though it was more of a suggestion. Still, she shook her head. She probably just wanted the bed to swallow her up. "When's the last time you showered?" Considering all of this had went down three days ago and he had been away untill now he was positive that she hadn't been taking care of herself. "You're getting a bath with Daddy and that's it." He spoke sternly as he climbed out of the bed despite her protests and picked her up.
He was gentle with her, despite being exhausted and not having much patience.
It was going back to bed that really tested him surprisingly. The tears had came back as they climbed into bed. Chris wrapped his arm around her as he handed her a stuffed lion that she had.
"I hate him! I hate this!" She had yelled, throwing the stuffed animal against the wall. He knew she had meant her ex as he brought her against his chest.
"Hey~" He soothed.
"You dont-" She had started to yell but he shut it down quickly as he held her face in both hands and made her look him in the eyes.
"I know you're hurting, I know you're going through alot. But you're not going to take it out on me, got it?" He lectured her before kissing her forehead. God this girl killed him. He helped her let out her feelings by having her scream into a pillow, and he didn't stop her when she threw occasional punches to it. It wasn't like she was hurting herself or anyone else. And again, she was going to have to get her feelings out one way or another.
At some point she had gotten out of bed and made her way downstairs with Chris trailing behind her. "Babe.. it's three am. What are you doing?" He sighed, catching up to her downstairs.
"I need to get out of here." She breathed through her sobs as she grabbed for her keys and headed towards the door.
"Absolutely not. Kitten, no." He shook his head as he grabbed her and lifted her up, intercepting her plan to go out to the car. That was asking for trouble. Actually, he knew exactly where that was going to end up and he wasn't losing his bestfriend over some idiot who couldn't see her worth. "No baby." He spoke as he carried her to the couch and sat them both down, kissing her forehead before taking the keys out of her hand.
"I need to go, please."
"Angel. It's three am and what you need is sleep. I'm not about to let anything happen to you." Her whimpers started in and he knew they didn't want the same thing. He cared more for her safety than she did. He pulled her into his arms and kissed the top of her head. "I know baby, I know it hurts. But I'm not letting you risk your life because of some idiotic man. I need you here. We can't exist without the other." His eyes were growing heavier the later it got but he was able to push through for her.
"I just want to go." She cried.
"Baby, listen to me. You're home, you're with Daddy and we can go cuddle up in bed. Isn't that your safe place?" He knew it was. She had an apartment and bed of her own but still spent more time in his. "So where else would you want to go?"
"I don't want to be here." The words felt like they ripped his heart out of his chest. She didn't mean that she didn't want to be at his place, he knew exactly what she meant.
"Angel, listen to me, okay?" His voice was soft as he cupped her face in his hands, making her look at him. "There's no me without you here. I know it isn't easy right now, but it will get better. In a few weeks you won't even think about him anymore and we'll be living our best lives and having fun. You just have to get through this and I'm right here to help you. I need you, baby."
"But I don't want that." She choked out.
"Yes, you do. You're just not thinking clearly right now but angel it's all going to be okay. I promise." He kissed her forehead before cradling her head against his chest. He would kill to carry her pain just so she could feel better. And he knew that eventually things with time would heal but at the moment it didn't feel that way for her.
He just couldn't wait to see the day where she had no more tears left to cry for someone who hurt her. Untill then he knew that there was going to be countless sleepless nights, a thousand breakdowns, a million tears and who knew how many hours of talking her through things. But he had signed up for this a long time ago when they had become each others safe place.
If they had each other, they could make it through anything.
