CHAPTER 16: THE ENCOUNTER

"This sudden change of environment... Who is that guy?" Leonard said, his eyes widening.

"That thing is just standing there, yet I can already feel his power. In fact, it's the same as Keevin's," Myles thought to himself.

Both of them looked at each other. Then, a government soldier charged at the mysterious figure. Myles and Leonard, in their ready positions, didn't follow. In the blink of an eye, blood splattered everywhere. Startled by the incident, they were frozen in place. The mysterious figure turned to look at them.

He was bathed in blood, his tall, muscular frame—around 203 cm—still obscured by darkness. His eyes burned red. "You aren't worth my time," he said.

Myles and Leonard gulped, their bodies trembling. "Yeah, this guy is stronger than us, but I must kill him. It's my duty to protect everyone here," Myles thought. He looked at Leonard, and both of them nodded. Myles ran toward the figure, pointing his sword. As he neared, he saw the figure standing calmly. Out of nowhere, Myles' body reacted on its own, making him jump. In mid-air, he noticed an almost invisible blade flying along the ground.

"What is that?" Myles exclaimed.

"Oh, I didn't know you could see that," the figure said, laughing.

"Woah, so this guy... no, he is a demon. He knows how to use magic," Myles thought.

The demon swung his arm upwards and then backward, sending another magic attack toward Myles. Myles dodged the first attack but didn't realize how quickly the magic was coming again. It nearly hit him, but Leonard's shield countered it just in time.

"Phew, that was close," Leonard said.

The demon looked at both of them, silent and watchful. "Be careful, Myles. He is strong," Leonard warned.

"Of course," Myles replied.

"Alright then, let's have some fun," the demon said, grinning. Myles and Leonard flinched at his smile. They fought gracefully for almost seventeen minutes. Gradually, Myles and Leonard grew weaker, exhausted from the fight. Despite blocking and dodging the demon's attacks, they hadn't managed to lay a single scratch on him.

"Just who are you, demon?" Leonard asked.

"Is it worth telling my name to weaklings like you? Once you're strong enough, then you'll be worthy to know my name," the demon replied.

The demon stomped his left foot and began to mumble. "I don't like this!" Myles exclaimed. Suddenly, their battle area began to shake, and dark light emerged from beneath Myles and Leonard, exploding.

The demon laughed at the smoky aftermath, but then he flinched. "What? Someone actually dodged that?" he thought. As the smoke cleared, Leonard's broken shield was revealed, having protected them both, though they had taken minor damage from the explosion.

"So this is the power of enchanting magic," Leonard thought.

The demon lifted his hand and waved it, saying, "Deus Coes." The enchantment on Leonard and Myles was dispelled effortlessly. "So you use enchanting magic. Impressive. I thought it was long gone. Now I know why you dodged my attack. What foolish weaklings, relying on enchanting magic to win against me. HAHAHA," the demon laughed.

He then looked at both of them, smiling. "Blade wind," he said, and sharp winds formed, attacking Leonard and Myles directly.

Blood splattered everywhere. Leonard lost his right hand, and Myles' stomach was slashed apart. Leonard slowly lay on the ground, losing blood, his face growing paler. "I'm sorry, Atlas and Keevin. I can't protect you this time," Leonard said, slowly passing out.

"What a fool," the demon said. Suddenly, he felt an urge to go to the center of Cleveland. His eyes widened as he saw Keevin and Atlas fighting demons nine miles away. Locking his eyes on Keevin, he said, "An elf? They still exist. And he's quite strong too." The demon grinned, adding, "It's been so long since I last tasted the blood of an elf," while licking his lips.
