CHAPTER 40: WISHES UNDER THE MAGIC TREE

Atlas woke up, looking at his side, Creed sleeping peacefully. A vision of them kissing still rang inside of Atlas' head. “Did I really kiss him yesterday?” Atlas thought to himself. He then touched Creed’s forehead to see if his head was hot.

“Is this how you wake someone up? By assaulting them?” Creed said.

“What the hell—” Atlas removed his arm, trying to cover his embarrassment. “Ahh, it’s already morning, so I just wanted to wake you up.” Atlas added, quickly getting out of the tent they had made.

Creed, seeing the situation, went back to sleep. Atlas lit a fire outside and quickly made some breakfast for them before they continued their journey. Creed then came outside the tent and saw Atlas already eating.

“Did you make some for me?” Creed asked.

“No,” Atlas replied.

“Brat,” Creed muttered.

“There, there, I already made yours,” Atlas said, handing the food he had prepared for Creed.

Creed took the food and said, “Now, this is what you should give your boss.” Atlas couldn’t help but feel annoyed at every word that came out of Creed’s mouth. They both began eating together, enjoying the morning breeze.

After a while, they finished packing everything and resumed their journey.

“So where are we heading, hooman?” Creed asked Atlas.

“We’re going to Silverton,” Atlas replied, and they both set off.

Upon arriving, Atlas’s face was filled with happiness. Creed wondered why Atlas suddenly cheered up.

“Why are you so happy?” Creed asked.

“Huh? I can’t be happy?” Atlas replied with a mocking face.

“Is it wrong for me to ask?” Creed replied.

“Well, this is where I was born,” Atlas said. He then grabbed Creed’s hand and began walking faster. Creed was shocked by the sudden gesture.

“Where are we going?” Creed asked.

“Just follow me,” Atlas replied.

“Okay,” Creed said.

They both ran to a large, old tree that was covered with wishes from people all over the world. Atlas looked at it, seeing how many people had written wishes on pieces of paper and attached them to the tree.

“This is a tree,” Creed said out of nowhere.

“Yes, but this isn’t just any tree,” Atlas replied excitedly. “This is a magic tree,” he added.

“Looks like a normal tree to me,” Creed said.

“Stop! You’re ruining the mood,” Atlas said.

“Alright,” Creed responded. “Why do you want to see this tree, though?” he added.

“To make a wish, duh,” Atlas replied.

“Fair enough,” Creed said.

Atlas began looking around the tree and found a pile of paper. He took a few pieces and divided them with Creed.

“C’mon, Creed, you can write what you wish for on this paper and paste it on the tree,” Atlas said.

“No thanks,” Creed replied.

“You’re no fun,” Atlas said as he began writing something on his paper.

Creed grew suspicious of what Atlas was writing. “Go away, shoo, shoo,” Atlas said, waving him off.

Annoyed but compliant, Creed stepped back. Once Atlas finished, he pasted his paper on the tree and found Creed waiting behind it. They both then headed to the nearest motel and quickly took a rest.

“I’m going to hell for a while,” Creed said.

“Alright, I’m going to take a shower first, so don’t show up for a while,” Atlas said.

Creed didn’t respond, but slowly disappeared into the shadows beneath his feet. Atlas took off his clothes and stepped into the bathroom to take a shower. “Ahh, this is nice,” Atlas said.
