CHAPTER 75: TENSIONS AND FESTIVITIES
The next morning, Creed came downstairs to find Atlas already awake and preparing breakfast. The tension from the night before hung in the air, but both of them said little about it.
“Hooman,” Creed said casually, causing Atlas to flinch.
Atlas’s face turned bright red. “What?!” he demanded.
Creed raised an eyebrow. “You’re looking like a tomato.”
“Shut up, Creed,” Atlas muttered, embarrassed but trying to hide it.
Creed, however, was not about to let it go. “Where are you going today?”
“To the guildhall,” Atlas replied. “They’re finishing preparations for the Moon Festival.”
“What’s that?” Creed asked, his curiosity piqued.
“It’s a festival to celebrate the full moon. We believe the moon’s golden light brings luck and protection,” Atlas explained.
“Sounds boring,” Creed said, disinterested.
“Then stay in Hell,” Atlas shot back with a smirk.
Creed narrowed his eyes but didn’t respond. “Fine. I’ll come with you.”
They made their way to the guildhall, where the bustling sounds of preparation filled the air. The moment they entered, whispers spread through the guild.
“Is that a new member? He’s so handsome!”
“Great. Just what we needed,” Atlas thought, feeling a knot tighten in his stomach.
“Morning, Atlas! Morning, Creed!” Darren greeted them.
Nowell approached, his usual grin in place. “Good morning, Atlas,” he said, taking Atlas’s hand and kissing it lightly.
Creed’s eyes narrowed. “Patience,” Atlas whispered quickly, feeling the tension rise.
Creed’s expression was cold as he greeted Darren. “Morning, Darren. Didn’t know that praying Mantis was here.”
The tension between Creed and Nowell was palpable, and Atlas couldn’t help but feel the stirrings of an impending storm.
“Atlas, can we talk?” Darren asked, his tone serious.
“Sure,” Atlas replied. “Just give me a minute.” He turned to Creed and gestured for him to stay behind.
“Stay here,” Atlas said softly.
Creed stood still, watching as Atlas and Darren walked away. A shared glance passed between Creed and Nowell.
"What am I going to do with him?" they both wondered silently.
