CHAPTER 78: Mors
From the light stepped a radiant figure. Each of its movements stirred the air, carrying a divine presence. Kneeling before Larcade, the figure spoke in a soft, soothing voice.
"Are you unharmed?"
Larcade, though shaken, managed a weak nod. "I'm... I'm fine," he stammered as the figure helped him stand.
"Are you an angel?" Larcade asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
The figure smiled and nodded. "My name is Mors, the Angel of Life and Death."
From that moment, Mors and Larcade began to meet in secret, forming a bond that grew deeper with each encounter. Their love defied the natural order, shaking the heavens themselves. Other angels, inspired by Mors's rebellion, began to follow his example, forming connections with humanity. But such love did not go unnoticed. The lord of heaven grew furious. Mors was forbidden from returning to the mortal realm.
One fateful day, the royal prince, driven by jealousy and lust, discovered their forbidden love. He laid a trap, capturing Mors as he descended to meet Larcade. Though Mors fought valiantly, he was gravely wounded while trying to protect Larcade.
As they fled together, a spear from a guard struck them, piercing through their shared hope. With his final strength, Mors transferred his remaining blood into Larcade, ensuring his survival.
"Our family's first generation arrived just in time to save me," Larcade explained, his voice heavy with sorrow. "But heaven's wrath descended upon us. We were sentenced to death. Mors, using his last magic, turned the punishment into an eternal blessing-a reservoir of immense power buried within our lineage."
Atlas furrowed his brows. "So that's the origin of our magic. But how do we unlock it?"
"It lies within the Heart of a Heartmiller," Larcade replied. "Only those who embrace their truest feelings can access its full potential."
He paused, his voice barely audible. "Mors and I were meant to be reborn. But my magic's strength kept me tethered here, while Mors was... changed. He became a demon. Meanwhile, I became eternal magic itself."
The weight of Larcade's words hung heavy in the room. Darren, stunned, tried to process the revelation. Suddenly, a familiar pattern shimmered on Atlas's hand, a sign of awakening power.
Larcade gathered the Demon Book, the Stellaria Coetus, and the Manuscript, handing them to Atlas.
"I have one final task for you," Larcade said, his voice filled with determination. "Both of you."
