CHAPTER 56: DESCENT INTO DARKNESS

Creed tried to leap forward using his magic, but something was wrong. He couldn’t conjure a single spell. “This is strange…why can’t I use my magic?” he muttered in frustration.

Darren attempted to cast a spell as well, only to realize the same issue. “It seems our magic is being nullified in this place,” Darren observed grimly.

“Guess that means we’re relying on pure physical strength,” Nowell said, clenching his fists.

Darren glanced around, urgency etched on his face. “We need to find Atlas as quickly as possible.”

“Agreed,” Creed replied, his voice steely with determination. The three of them began searching the area, hoping to find a way down to where Atlas had fallen.

“Look—over there!” Darren yelled, spotting a descending pathway. Without hesitation, they hurried towards it.

“Hooman, I’m coming to save you,” Creed whispered under his breath.

Meanwhile, Atlas slowly came to, disoriented from the fall. Pain radiated through his left leg, which was badly injured. He tried to heal it, but his powers wouldn’t respond. Nearby, he noticed a sturdy stick and used it as a makeshift crutch, grimacing with each step as he stood up and glanced upward, seeing how far he had fallen.

“Great…now how am I supposed to get back up there?” he muttered, his voice strained as he struggled to keep moving, hoping to find a way out of the maze-like depths he’d fallen into.

As Creed, Darren, and Nowell continued downward, they found themselves in an intricate network of pathways twisting in every direction, making navigation nearly impossible.

“Why is this place so confusing?” Creed grumbled, visibly frustrated.

“Stay calm,” Darren advised. “Panicking isn’t going to help, especially down here.”

Darren’s gaze shifted to the bag containing Stellaria Coetus. Pulling it out, he flipped through the pages, attempting to find anything useful. However, the poetic and cryptic phrases were just as confusing as ever.

“This book is infuriating…even a demon would lose their mind trying to decipher this,” Darren muttered.

“Agreed,” Creed said with a sigh.

Just then, a particular line caught Creed’s attention. “Wait, look at this. It might mean something,” he said, pointing to a line on the page.

“As the ticking continues, the time will always walk. When the miracle stops, something must change,” Darren read aloud.

“‘Ticking,’” Nowell repeated, deep in thought.

A tense silence fell over them, broken only by the sound of approaching footsteps. Instinctively, Nowell and Creed moved into defensive stances, bracing for what lay ahead. Emerging from the shadows was a cloaked figure. Although his face was obscured, the moment he saw Creed, he seemed startled and swiftly turned to flee.

“Wait—look at his necklace,” Darren said, noticing a small ticking clock hanging around the figure’s neck, producing an eerie “Tick, tock” sound.

Without a word, Darren took off after him, and the others quickly followed, their footsteps echoing through the darkness as they chased the mysterious figure deeper into the unknown.
