CHAPTER 57: SEEKING OF THE CLOAK

“Wait!” Darren shouted, sprinting after the cloaked figure. All three of them took off in pursuit. The figure stretched an arm back, conjuring a dazzling light that erupted in continuous blasts, targeting them with relentless magic.

“Isn’t magic supposed to be blocked down here?” Nowell said, dodging the strikes.

“I thought so too,” Darren replied, bewildered.

Creed skillfully evaded each burst of magic and leapt from above, aiming to tackle the figure. But the cloaked man was faster than Creed anticipated, slipping out of his reach with astonishing agility.

“This guy’s quicker than he looks,” Creed muttered, eyes narrowing.

Suddenly, the cloaked figure appeared behind Creed, chanting, “Declomina Lecroi,” as he cast a spell. A piercing, heavenly light shot toward Creed’s left arm.

“Damn, what is that?” Creed hissed, barely dodging the attack, though his left arm sustained a slight burn from the radiant energy.

Darren and Nowell, watching the intense confrontation, exchanged uneasy glances. Darren’s face grew pale as he continued to observe the figure’s movements.

“Darren, what’s wrong?” Nowell asked, noticing his friend’s expression.

“That voice...do you recognize it?” Darren whispered, his gaze fixed on the cloaked figure.

Meanwhile, Atlas struggled through the winding pathways, each step more painful than the last. He finally came to a halt, exhaustion overtaking him. “I can’t keep going...this hurts too much,” he gasped, wincing as he looked at his injured leg. “Was taking on this quest really a mistake?”

He paused, catching his breath. Determination flickered in his eyes as he thought of his friends. “I need to find Creed, Darren, and Nowell,” he murmured, forcing himself to stand again.

As he limped a few more meters, he suddenly heard the faint sound of running water. He followed the sound and soon discovered a small fountain, hidden amidst the dimly lit cavern. “A fountain...down here?” Atlas muttered, astonished. “How big is this place?”

He knelt beside the fountain and drank, feeling his strength gradually return as the water eased his pain. Looking down at his leg, he realized the pain had disappeared. “This water...it’s healing me,” he said in amazement.

Atlas scanned the area, hoping to find a way to bring the water back for the others. “If only my magic worked, I could carry this to them,” he thought aloud in frustration.

Just then, a faint ticking sound echoed through the cavern. A shadowed figure appeared a few meters away, shrouded in darkness. Atlas’s instincts flared; he could sense something unsettling about the stranger.

“Who are you?” Atlas demanded, positioning himself defensively.

The figure stood silently, scanning the surroundings before finally settling his gaze on Atlas’s arms.

“It’s me, Atlas,” the figure said, his voice familiar.

Atlas’s eyes widened in shock, recognizing the voice. A gentle wind stirred around them, swirling through the cavern as the two locked eyes, the shadows shifting as if to frame the unexpected reunion.
