CHAPTER 44: BENEATH THE STILLNESS
Atlas woke up the next day, only to realize Creed wasn't there. “Oh, he must have gone back to hell,” he thought, hearing the gentle chirping of birds from the window. Walking over, he opened the window to let the cool morning breeze flow inside, feeling a quiet happiness in the serene scene of the town below.
“What does the map show? The manuscript should be somewhere around here,” Atlas pondered, staring out over the bustling streets. “Is it because my family lived here? No, I don't think so,” he muttered, casting a glance toward the demon book and Stellaria Coetus lying on the table.
A knock interrupted his thoughts. Curious, Atlas moved to open the door and was surprised to see Creed standing there, holding sandwiches and coffee for both of them.
“I thought you went back to hell?” Atlas asked, his eyebrows raised.
“Yeah, I did. But I came back earlier. You were still asleep, so I figured I’d grab breakfast before we continue our journey,” Creed replied calmly.
Atlas was taken aback by Creed’s words, a small smile creeping onto his face. “Thanks, Creed.” “Let’s eat, then,” Creed responded, handing Atlas his portion.
As they ate together, the silence was unexpectedly broken by Creed. “Hooman, can I ask you something about time magic?” he said suddenly, his voice calm yet direct.
Atlas looked at Creed, noticing the seriousness in his gaze. “Time magic? It's forbidden. In fact, I’m not even sure if it really exists,” Atlas said, setting down his coffee.
“Why’s that?” Creed asked, his expression unreadable.
“I’ve never seen anyone use it,” Atlas replied simply, with a shrug.
“Oh.” Creed’s reply was brief, but his tone hinted at contemplation.
Once they finished their breakfast, they prepared to continue their journey. As they walked down the city streets, Atlas suddenly felt a tug on his clothes. Startled, he quickly turned around to see who it was.
“Atlas! It's been so long!” a familiar voice called out.
Atlas’s eyes widened in surprise before lighting up with excitement. “Melisa!” he exclaimed, joyfully hugging the woman standing before him.
