CHAPTER 43: A TASK FROM THE BEYOND
The sun had long set, casting the sky in deep hues of purple and blue as Atlas and Creed walked side by side, heading back to their motel. Their steps were quiet, the silence between them heavy, as if both were lost in thought. Something unspoken lingered in the air, but neither broke the silence.
Inside the small room, there were two separate beds, neatly made. Atlas glanced at Creed, who remained expressionless as ever, then threw himself onto his own bed. Creed followed suit, laying down on his bed without a word.
As the night deepened, Creed drifted into sleep. His usual dreamless state was interrupted when he found himself standing in the familiar void once more, where a glowing orb hovered in front of him.
“Creed, can you hear me?” the orb’s voice echoed in the endless darkness.
“Yeah,” Creed replied, his tone as monotone as usual. “What do you want this time?”
“Have you taught Atlas about the healing magic yet?” the orb inquired.
Creed closed his eyes briefly before answering. “I don’t think this is the right time to teach him that.”
“Hmm, I see,” the orb replied thoughtfully. “Alright, I won’t push it for now.”
Out of nowhere, a wooden table and two chairs materialized before them, startling Creed. His normally indifferent expression flickered with confusion.
“Where the hell did that come from?” Creed asked, his voice unusually sharp.
“This is another realm,” the orb explained calmly. “Or think of it as a part of your dream. Everything you see or hear here is real, though it may not make sense. It’s a dimension that exists between consciousness and reality.”
Creed sat down at the table, his posture relaxed despite the strange surroundings. “Fine,” he muttered. “What do you need from me this time?”
The orb’s glow intensified slightly. “Now that you’ve healed, it’s time to fulfill the task you promised long ago.”
Creed’s brows furrowed slightly. “What task?”
“I need you to find the lost watch from the Book of Time,” the orb said, its voice resonating with importance.
At the mention of the Book of Time, Creed’s eyes widened, a flicker of recognition sparking in his usually emotionless face. The words echoed in his mind, stirring something long buried. “The Book of Time…” he murmured, then his thoughts snapped to Atlas. “Atlas mentioned something about the Time Arc.” Creed's gaze dropped to the table, and his mind began to piece things together.
“Is this related to the ancient and forbidden magic of time?” Creed asked, his voice serious now.
The orb pulsed, its glow shifting rhythmically. “Yes, it is,” it confirmed.
Creed’s expression grew more intense. He knew that time magic was considered one of the most dangerous and forbidden powers in existence. It had the ability to rewrite everything—the past, the present, and the future. Such magic could change the very fabric of reality.
“Time magic,” Creed muttered under his breath. “It can undo everything, even remove all curses in this world…” He paused, his gaze hardening. “Including the curses on me. And on you.”
The orb floated in silence for a moment before speaking again. “Exactly. That’s why it’s so important to find the lost watch. The power it holds could change everything.”
Creed sat back in his chair, processing the information. His face remained stoic, but beneath the surface, thoughts churned. The idea of wielding time magic was both tempting and terrifying. And now, this task—to find the lost watch—seemed to be drawing him and Atlas deeper into a destiny neither of them fully understood.
“Where do I begin?” Creed asked after a long pause.
The orb glowed brighter. “That, you’ll have to discover in due time. But know this: the closer you get to the truth, the more dangerous your journey will become. There are others who seek the Book of Time, and they will stop at nothing to claim its power.”
Creed’s eyes narrowed. He had never been one to fear danger. “I’m not worried about that,” he replied flatly. “If it’s a fight they want, I’ll give it to them.”
The orb seemed satisfied with his response. “Good. Then your journey has truly begun. The watch is key, Creed. Find it, and you’ll unlock the secrets of time itself.”
Creed woke up abruptly, his eyes snapping open in the dark room. His heart beat a little faster than usual, though his face remained as emotionless as ever. He glanced over at Atlas, who was fast asleep in the other bed, oblivious to the weight of the mission that now loomed over them both.
Creed closed his eyes again, allowing the silence of the night to wash over him, but sleep would not come easily. His mind was filled with thoughts of the Book of Time, the lost watch, and the dangerous path that lay ahead.
