CHAPTER 37: STARRY EYE

As they sat in front of the firepit that Atlas had made, they enjoyed dinner together, surrounded by the soft whispers of the wind and bathed in the glow of the moonlight. The stars above sparkled, and the moon illuminated their entire camp. Amidst the peaceful moment, Creed broke the silence.

"Can I ask why you're going on this quest, hooman?" Creed asked, his tone unusually curious.

Atlas glanced at Creed, hesitant to answer. He feared revealing too much, knowing that the Heartmiller name carried a heavy weight, especially among demons. It was said to be the foundation of magic itself, known throughout the world.

"It's okay if you don’t want to answer," Creed added gently, his deep voice somehow calming Atlas’s anxious heart.

Atlas gazed up at the sky, its vibrant canvas painted with shining stars and a bright yellow moon. He sighed, then began to speak, though hesitantly.

"I know you're a demon, and I..." Atlas trailed off, unsure of how much he should trust Creed. "I don't know if I can trust you... Can I trust you, Creed?" He asked, meeting Creed's gaze, his eyes full of uncertainty and fear.

Creed looked deep into Atlas’s eyes, sensing the hesitation and the weight of his question. For a moment, he felt something unfamiliar stir inside him. Slowly, he responded, "Yes, you can."

Atlas’s heart skipped a beat. "Why is my heart beating so fast?" he muttered in his mind, feeling Creed's presence too close for comfort. Flustered, Atlas turned away quickly and, trying to play it cool, said, "Well, I don't have anything serious to say. LOL. I'm just messing with you." He forced a laugh, trying to mask his nervousness.

Creed was unimpressed by the deflection. "Brat," he muttered under his breath.

"What? What were you expecting?" Atlas asked with a smirk, attempting to lighten the mood.

"You could’ve at least told me what the quest is really about," Creed replied, still looking annoyed.

"Well, why don’t you answer *my* question first?" Atlas countered. "Why do you want to come with me? And where do you keep disappearing to, only to suddenly show up again?" Atlas asked, turning the conversation around.

"I’m the one who asked first, and now you're answering with more questions?" Creed said, clearly irritated. "Besides, I’m your boss, so I should get answers first."

"Fine then, let’s head back and cancel this whole quest," Atlas teased, a mischievous grin on his face.

"Shithead," Creed muttered under his breath, clearly frustrated. "Alright, fine. But after I answer, you have to tell me why you're really on this quest."

"Deal," Atlas said, flashing a smile, satisfied with himself.
