Abby Normal
Season 10 x 20
May, 2004:wednesday:
i opened my eyes to luka sitting straight up in bed, looking at the clock.
"you okay?" i asked, flipping around
"yeah" he sighed
"it's 6, later than what it has been"
"i feel more rested than usual"
i sat up next to him.
"god, it's hot in here" i groaned, running my hand through my hair.
"is the baby awake?"
"oh, yeah" i laughed
i rolled up my shirt, grabbing his hand, and placing it on my belly.
"god, baby's active"
"yeah" i smiled
"i gotta hop in the shower" i yawned, rolling out of the bed.
——
"alicia?" i asked, opening a curtain
"that would be me" the patient smiled
"hi" i smiled back, setting the chart down on the gurney.
"so, muscular pain in your leg?"
"yeah, for the past few weeks"
"any heavy lifting or exercise?"
"dr. morris thinks it's just doing too much activity"
"it probably is" i nodded
i put on a pair of gloves, getting the IV kit ready.
"i'm gonna give you an IV for the pain"
"just a little bit of tylenol" i nodded
"then, dr. morris will come back with the ultrasound to take a better look at your leg, alright?"
"sure" she nodded
i unwrapped the needle, tapping her hand for a vein.
"alright, here comes a pinch"
then, i attached the IV to the bag.
"perfect"
"i'm gonna let you sit there for awhile for that to kick in while we wait for the ultrasound machine"
"but, is there anything i can get you, alicia?"
"i don't think so" she shrugged
"okay, i'll see you in a little bit" i smiled"you busy down here?" abby asked as i scribbled into a chart.
"not too bad so far"
"you know how it is"
"how's it up in psych?"
"great" she smiled
"trying to figure out a few things for a patient of mine"
"breaking some rules" she shrugged
"i'm glad you're enjoying it up there"
"it probably is good to get away from this place for a change"
"yeah, something like that"
"just as nutty up there as it is down here"
"i bet" i smiled
"how're you doing?" she asked, walking down the hallway with me.
"i'm alright"
"i've gotten to the point where i've gotten used to my hips aching and my ankles being swollen"
"you've got awhile to go, huh?"
"yeah, two months" i sighed
"maybe it'll go by fast" she shrugged
"here's hoping"
"only getting bigger from here" i smiled
"gianna, the ultrasounds ready" morris shouted, rolling it down the hallway.
"better let you go"
"i'll see you" i smiled, following morris"so, it's just muscular?" alicia asked
"the ultrasound shows no sign of immediate injuries, or crucial concerns"
"you probably pulled something" morris shrugged
"so, slow down on the running"
"take your tylenol if you need"
"and stretch the leg" i smiled
"and if it doesn't help?"
"you can come back and find us" i nodded
"rest is your best friend" morris smiled
"thank you"
"i'll get your discharge papers reading and you'll be good to go, alright?"
"thank you" she nodded
——
i let out a sigh, setting a chart down on the counter.
"you're off, right?" luka asked, coming around
"i am" i nodded
he dug into his pocket, pulling the car keys out
"you can take the car home, i'll catch the l later"
"are you sure?"
"traffic will be bad when i get off anyway" he shrugged
"i missed you today" i smiled
"i know, i've been busy" he sighed, leaning against the admit desk.
"well, i guess i'll see you at home" i shrugged
"dr. kovac, can i have some help in here?" morris shouted from down the hallway
"i guess you will" he sighed, walking toward that way
"good luck with that" i laughed, walking toward the triage area.i stood beside my car, trying to open the door wide enough to let me in without hitting the car next to me.
i couldn't seem to fit though.
luka parked this car far away from the others this morning, but the parking garage was full now.
like a pregnant woman does, i immediately started to panic.
"what an asshole" i scoffed as i looked at the completely idiotic way that this honda civic parked. he was over the line for goodness sake.
so, i tired to get in the car through the passengers side, which, i was able to do. the only thing is, i wasn't able to climb over the seat to the drivers side.
i got out of the car, rummaging through my purse. i eventually found my phone, flipping it open.
"before you say anything, the wait for the ER is looking at around 3 hours-"
"frank, it's gianna" i panted
"gianna, didn't you just leave here?"
"yeah i did, can you get luka on the line"
"he's in the midd-"
"i don't care"
"just tell him to meet me in the parking garage please"
"sure thing, gianna" he sighed, handing up the phone.
—-
"what happened?" luka asked, walking my direction.
"i can't get in the car" i laughed
"and i tried the passengers side but i'm too big to climb over the seat"
he stood and smiled at me.
"and i'm sorry for bothering you"
"don't be, you saved me from cleaning up a exploded colostomy bag" he laughed
"alright, that's good" i sighed, nodding my head
"i pull it out for you" he said as i handed him the keys
"thank you, luka"
i walked away from the car, watching him back it out.
he got out, leaving the door open for me.
"i love you" i smiled
"i love you, too" he laughedfriday:
i got off an hour and a half earlier but found myself right back at the hospital for my ob appointment.
my mom drove me there.
i changed into white fabric pants and a short sleeve shirt
"why did you work the early shift?"
5 to 2.
"i don't know" i sighed
"not like i'm getting much sleep anyways"
"the baby's kicking?"
"at night, yeah"
"baby will be here before you know it" she smiled
"i have at least seven weeks left"
she waved her hand in the air "may and june are gonna fly by"
"not if i don't get sleep" i smiled"your baby is happy and healthy" the nurse smiled
"thank you"
i pulled my shirt over my stomach.
"you have a good day, gianna"
"thanks again, lisa"
i had a good weight and my baby was developing well.
"where are we going?" my mom asked
"down to the ER"
"what if you break your neck in those platform shoes"
"i've worn these before" i smiled
"did you know gio and cynthia are trying again for another?"
"yeah, gio called me the other day" i nodded
"the family is growing like crazy"
"sure is"
"tino and his cute girlfriend better pop one out soon"
"natalia is great" i smiled
"have you met trey?"
"he's good"
she rolled her eyes "bianca is so indecisive though"
"can hardly take her seriously"
i walked around heading for the exam rooms.
"thought you were off?" abby smiled
"ob appointment" i smiled
"psych suits you well" i added before walking off
"i think so too" she said from the other end of the hall.
my mom was waiting by the admit desk for me.
"you're back" luka smiled
i stood and tried to catch my breath, it felt like this baby was squeezing my lungs. my mom said it looked like i was carrying this baby high anyways.
"wanted to say hi" i smiled
"everything went okay?"
"everything's perfect" i nodded
"i'm glad"
"your mom's here?"
"yes she is"
luka followed me back to the admit desk
"maria" he smiled
he wrapped my mom in a hug.
"nice to see you again, luka"
"you too"
then, he planted a kiss on my forehead "i'll see you at home"
my mom raised an eyebrow "let me guess, you need to pee?"
"better before i go" i smiled
i gave luka a little wave and headed for the hall.a/n: sorry for posting later than usual today! i had written hardly anything for this part, so i wanted to add more for you all. this episode was more difficult because the main focus of it was abby's psych rotation. nonetheless, i hope you enjoyed.. as always, thank you for the votes and support, i love and appreciate you all. see you on friday!
