I hear the door to the small room close. Is the doctor back? I felt a strange static feeling in the air for a moment. Maybe it's something I imagined. Vinny hasn't exactly been still while we've been waiting. He keeps moving his arms and showing Chris whatever he's looking at on his phone. I just want to melt into Vinny but I want him to be still.

"Doctor Pierce?" Chris asked. I didn't imagine the sound of the door closing. "Is everything alright?"

"Yes. Melody has been very, very, well taken care of, for a pet that comes from Wellington's, other than the malnutrition and weight. Her iron levels are quite high, while her B12 could use a boost." The doctor said.

Chris was quick to reply, "Buuut?"

Dr. Pierce moved some papers before answering, "I need to let you know that Melody has a bit of angel in her blood. It's nothing bad, just 1/7th of her blood is angelic. If an immortal gets close enough to her while she's bleeding, they might be able to notice it. Any form of angelic blood is highly sought after, so be sure to keep her human scent completely masked as a precaution."

"I don't know anything about angels." Chris whispered under his breath, but I could still hear him. I could feel a tightness in my chest that I was starting to connect to getting when Chris is worried or upset. I lifted my head off of Vinny's shoulder to look at Chris. His eyebrows were furrowed and his face looked hard. I let go of Vinny's hand and quickly took Chris' hand into mine. A smile instantly lit up Chris' face as he moved his eyes to meet mine.

I smiled back at Chris, "Safe with you."

Chris nodded and squeezed my hand, "Thats right, sweetheart. I won't let anything happen to you."

The doctor chuckled as Chris leaned to the side, getting closer to me. I couldn't help my eyes from moving over towards the doctor. The doctor had a little smile on his lips, "It's rare for humans to trust Immortals so quickly. I normally see the opposite, so it's refreshing to see the chemistry between you."

Chris took the small stack of papers the doctor handed to him and he put the majority of his focus on it. Vinny leaned over to glance at the papers in Chris' hand, "Melody was terrified of us at first. She only trusted Chris. Then me. I think Logan is the only person she doesn't trust, now."

"Has she made anyone else's heart start to beat again, other than the two of you?" The doctor asked.

"Yes. Ricky and Justin's hearts started beating again, too." Chris said before he looked back up at the doctor. I let my eyes follow Chris' to see Dr. Pierce standing close to us with a hand under his chin as he thought. Dr. Pierce moved his blue eyes to Vinny, "What event caused your heart to start beating?"

"Well, she fell asleep in Chris' arms about an hour after he saved her, and he accidentally woke her up when he tried to set her on the couch, but she was terrified to not be in Chris' arms. He needed to get ready for the show, so I offered to hold her and keep her safe while Chris took a shower and got ready. Ryan was being very snappy, and things he was saying scared Melody, but I was holding her and she just squeezed herself into me as if I could make her invisible or something. I could tell how terrified she was, and she trusted me to keep her safe. That's when it started to beat again." Vinny said, moving his arm tighter around me, almost as if the memory was meaningful to him and it would vanish quickly if I wasn't near him. I can only assume what it would feel like to have your heart beat for the first time, and it must feel like mine does sometimes when it skips beats. If you felt your heart beat for the first time, why would you not want to remember the moment? I could see not wanting to remember it if it was something bad, like someone getting hurt or dying making your heart start beating. Are vampires not supposed to have heartbeats?
