"She acts kind of like a kitten." Justin said, "We can name her Katherine and call her Kat or Kitty."
"She was probably raised to act like that." Ricky said in an annoyed tone.
I let my eyes wander over towards Ricky as he walked across the room to the other couch beside ours. Ricky was also wearing an all black outfit and his long black hair was a little messy. I recognized the boots he was wearing as the boots I saw earlier when he sat down. He had thick eyeliner around his eyes and it made his blue eyes really pop out. He folded his arms across his chest and moved his eyes over to me. The harsh blue shade of Ricky's eyes seemed to fade as we stared at each other. Ricky moved his eyes to where Justin's voice was coming from as Justin gave a dry, amused laugh, "No, she wasn't. Pets are trained to keep their eyes down at all times and to keep to themselves as if they don't exist. She isn't afraid to look us in the eyes, which means she is untrained. I don't understand, though, I'm positive she came from Wellington's. They are strict on rules."
I moved my eyes down to the floor. I went to classes with the other pets, but I was always pulled away at certain times to help tend the babies and toddlers. Grayson gave me lessons himself in the nursery. Was I kept from learning the things I needed to know? Are they going to get rid of me because I'm not fully trained?
"So we have a shy little kitten on our hands." Chris said. I could hear the amusement in his voice. Is it a bad thing? Am I a bad thing?
It felt like my spirit tried to leave my body as a cold hand gripped my left hand. I was able to stop my gasp from escaping my throat when I noticed it was Andy's hand that had grabbed mine. I moved my eyes over to Andy. The look he was giving me was so sad. When Andy noticed I was looking at him he gave me a forced smile as he turned his body to me, "You are not a bad thing. Just because you weren't trained on being a pet, it doesn't mean you aren't worth something."
"That's right, little kitten." Chris said as he tightened his arms around me, "You are something. You aren't a pet and you will never be a pet."
"She's still human." Ricky said as he sighed, "Being human means pet to any immortal here."
Chris shook his head, "She will not be classified as a pet. I won't have it. Do you hear that, little kitten? You're free."
I pulled my hand from Andy's comforting hold; he probably forgot he even pulled my hand into his to begin with. I turned the opposite way to face Chris, "Don't leave me alone. Please."
Chris' brown eyes seemed to light up at my words, his black lips turning into a soft smile, "I'm not going anywhere."
I leaned back into him, letting my body sink back into Chris' side. He seems like the best owner I could have ever asked for. Maybe this won't be so bad. Chris leaned back, popping a few bones in his spine, "Melody."
"Melody?" Justin asked from beside Chris as his tall figure appeared on the other side of Chris. I felt my heart start to race again when my eyes met Justin's. I was afraid to move. I was afraid to breathe. I was frozen in place as I stared at him.
His angular face was as white as Chris', his lips had a large black X over them, and his eyes had black around them. His right eye was solid white; no pupil in sight. His left eye was black. Justin's hair was blond and fairly short, the front pieces pushed up neatly. Justin did not look friendly. I wanted to get out of his sight as fast as I could. Chris said no one was going to hurt me and I didn't want anything to come close enough to hurt me, which included him.
I finally had the courage to tear myself from Justin's spooky gaze and buried my face in Chris' side. I tightened my hold on Chris, clutching the fabric of his shirt in my hands as a gasp of fear left my mouth. Justin looks like a creature from my nightmares and I didn't want to stick around long enough to figure out what kind of nightmare he came from.
