MISFORTUNE
Lana's POV
As they say, you can only do two things when you have a problem.
Solve it, or run away from it.
Since I was not allowed to choose the first option, I went with the latter.
"Hayaan mo bub, I'll ask around if there are other establishments in need of part-timers."
Ngumiti ako at tinitigan ang mga paa kong minamasahe ni Kiel. Nandito kami ngayon sa kama ko, nagpapaantok. I told him about what happened at the bar and as expected, he got worried but I assured him I'm confident I can find a new job in just a matter of time.
"Okay, enough about me. Kumusta pala ang pagkikita niyo ng tatay mo?" tanong ko. He started massaging my legs too.
"He's different today...I enjoyed spending time with him. It's been a while since we last played golf together. It brought so many memories."
"I'm happy to hear that. Ano pang ginawa niyo?"
"We ate dinner and then we had a few drinks. We were in the middle of it when all of a sudden, he told me he was planning on making things right for our family. Hindi ko sigurado kung nasasabi niya lang 'yon dahil sa kalasingan but Dad promised me he'll stay this time, and that he'd stop seeing other girls."
He exhaled and decided to rest his head on my lap.
"I should be happy hearing him say those words but instead, I'm doubtful of his intentions. It's just weird. Parang ayokong maniwalang nagsasabi siya ng totoo. He's been an ass for years. Why change now?"
I combed his hair using my hand. "Tumatanda na ang dad mo, Kiel. Baka naman na-realize niya na sa wakas ang mga pagkakamali niya kaya bumabawi na siya."
"I hope that's it. I pray he's telling the truth because if he's not, it would completely tear my mom's heart. Mahal na mahal ko si mom, kaya kung lolokohin lang siya ulit, ako na mismo ang magtatakwil sa sariling ama ko. Lumaki naman na akong palagi siyang wala. We don't need him in our lives."
"Hey, don't be like that. Bigyan mo ng chance ang tatay mo. Mukha namang sinusubukan niya talagang mabuo ulit ang pamilya niyo." I leaned down to kiss his forehead and that calmed him down. Pumikit si Kiel pagkatapos ay bumuntong hininga na naman siya.
Gusto kong banggitin ang tungkol sa nangyari kanina sa mall. It would help me feel at ease if I inform Kiel about my abrupt meeting with his mom but he's too stressed right now. Ayoko namang dumagdag pa sa mga iniisip niya...
The fact that Tita Eliana did not mention anything to her son might mean that our encounter was probably not a big deal for her.
Dahil siguro lasing na rin nang bahagya si Kiel, ay madali siyang nakatulog. I tried to sleep too but I failed. Hindi pa talaga ako inaantok kaya dahan-dahan kong inilipat sa unan ang ulo niyang nakapatong sa kandunga ko pagkatapos ay umalis sa kama at bumaba upang uminom ng gatas.
