The one chapter where they have dinner

Cody silently dreaded the dinner. The conversations tended to be interesting and Obi-Wan most certainly didn't need to hear about Kix's new theory, what pranks have Wolffe and Tanya played in the past few days, or, and that's what Cody dreaded the most, Fives' and Echo's opinions on Cody and his sexuality.

Surprisingly enough, it started fine. The children came when Cody called them, only the twins waited until Rex came for them to their room. They also demanded that it was Rex who handed them their plate of food. But as long as they just sat down in silence and didn't make homophobic comments, it was fine. Cody didn't want to know what Rex told them, especially Fives, to make them behave, but it clearly worked.

A light tug at his pants made Cody look away from where he's been heating another plate with food. It was Wooley trying to get his attention. "Do you need something, sweetheart?"

"Picture." Wooley proudly showed him a paper. It was a picture of a stick man and some flowers, or so Cody guessed.

"That's a very nice picture. Did you draw that for me?"

  "No."

"No? Then who did you draw it for?"

  Wooley pointed at Obi-Wan.

"It's for Obi-Wan? That's sweet. Come with me and we can give it to him, okay?" Cody offered Wooley his hand and accompanied him to Obi-Wan's seat. He was pretty sure that Obi-Wan heard them but decided to pretend he didn't. Cody went along with it. "Obi-Wan, Wooley here would like to give you something."

"Really? That's very nice of you, Wooley. Can I see it?"

Wooley shyly handed Obi-Wan the picture. Clearly, Obi-Wan knew how to talk to toddlers. He made sure to loudly appreciate the drawing and didn't forget to thank Wooley. Cody didn't see their entire interaction, he still needed to heat a few more portions of the food before Jesse took the matters in his own hands and set the kitchen on fire, but somehow, Wooley ended up sitting on Obi-Wan's lap. It was a rather cute sight.

"Here is your meal. If you wanted more, just ask." Cody placed a generous portion of the food in front of Obi-Wan. "I will take Wooley so you can eat in peace."

Cody definitely didn't blush at how much into Obi-Wan's personal space he had to lean to lift Wooley into his own arms. He also certainly didn't blush at the way his and Obi-Wan's legs were touching under the table. Who was he even kidding? He was so going to get teased about this.

"The food is good," Emerie commented.

  "I'm glad," Obi-Wan answered.

"You could cook our dinner every night. Cody cooks gross things, like peas and broccoli," Jesse complained.

"Peas and broccoli are healthy," Kix reminded him. "There is vitamin C in them."

"Apples are healthy too and you don't eat them," Jesse accused.

  "They keep the doctor away!"

Cody shook his head fondly. He seriously doubted Obi-Wan was interested in the kids complaining about having to eat vitamins but it was much better than what the twins could say. He was genuinely afraid of Fives opening his mouth. Which was happening right now.

"I want Bly to cook for us again," Fives said. That wasn't the worst thing he could say.

"Oh? Is Bly a good cook?"

"Yeah." Fives nodded. "And he also isn't wrong, like Cody."

That was what Cody was afraid of.

"Fives, we talked about this," Rex spoke before anyone else could and Cody was grateful for that. "There is nothing wrong with Cody and if you think there is, you can talk about it with him once the dinner is over."
