As if he was afraid of disturbing her, without making much noise, Heidith took slow steps towards Zadhea and crouched down beside her before gently touching her hand, asking in a low voice, "Dhea, are you alright?"
His deep voice broke Zadhea's long reverie. She flinched and looked into his eyes with her empty, dimmed eyes before widening them in shock and uncontained fury.
"Don't touch me!" she roared, pushing him away while standing up, appearing like a snake hit by a stick. She could feel her strength returning to her body as a result of her unrestrained anger. She was trembling like a tree caught in the middle of a heavy storm.
"Don't touch me," she repeated when she saw him taking a step towards her. "Stay back!"
Heidith was confused. He couldn't understand why she was acting as if he were some kind of beast or monster. What had he done wrong to receive such an attitude from his own fiancée? She looked like she was insane, madly furious.
"What's wrong with you, Zadhea?" Heidith inquired like a parent. His expression stiffened to zero as his face became a stone, showing no signs of emotion. "Please calm down and restrain yourself."
"Restrain myself? Ha ha. Are you kidding me?" Zadhea laughed angrily.
"I'm not joking." Heidith frowned. "What's up with you? Why are you acting like a mad girl? Are you cra..." Before he could finish, Zadhea gave him a tight slap across his face.
"Shut up!" she screamed. "You disgust me."
Heidith felt shocked. He touched his cheek where she had mercilessly hit him. He could still feel the stinging sensation spread across his whole cheek as if it were burning.
Heidith realized that she wasn't in a state to talk to him. Hence, he silently turned around, hoping to leave her alone to gather her thoughts and his own. He knew that if he stayed there for another minute, he would also lose his patience.
"Bastard." He heard Zadhea curse behind his back.
Heidith drew a lungful of air. Deep down, he knew he would regret it if he were to do something he shouldn't.
"Are you leaving, coward?" Zadhea sneered, testing his resilience. "I hate you so much."
Heidith clenched his fists. Finally, he ran out of patience. "What are you talking about? Why are you so angry with me? I should be the one to get mad at you for not visiting me all this time. But I forgot everything and rushed here to meet you only to receive a slap on my cheek." He panted heavily. "Why are you so unfair?"
"Oh really?" Zadhea looked at him from head to toe. "I'm unfair, ha? What about you? How could you cheat on me with Stella? You don't have any shame? I'm disappointed, Prince Heidith. You are such trash. Kissing a homewrecker on her mouth. Yuck!"
Heidith knitted his brows. "How could you assume that I cheated on you? You are humiliating me with false accusations, Princess Zadhea. It seems like you don't trust me. No, no. I think you never trusted me in the first place. As always, I was delusional all this time. I'm still delusional. I still think you have a soft spot for me. How foolish I am." He laughed at himself.
Zadhea glared at him. "You cheater. From now on, you are just a complete stranger to me. Nothing else."
"Oh seriously?" Heidith scoffed. "You are calling me a cheater. But I think you are the biggest cheater here. That's why you went to meet a man in a forest all by yourself. And even that knight guy, Lucas, or whoever that is. You can't be with just one person. How pathetic!"
"How could you?!" Zadhea raised her hand to give him another slap, but Heidith held her hand to stop her. His grip on her wrist tightened until that area turned pale as Zadhea winced in pain.
