Lucas quickly opened the envelope and took the letter that was inside it, reading it carefully. When he finished reading it, he reread it again and again until he became satisfied as he carefully folded it and put it inside the envelope again.
Then he turned his attention to his father, no, his UNCLE again, asking, "What's Kingdom Rosedrop? I haven't heard of such a name before."
"Do you know Kingdom Albrecht?" Duke Ferdinand asked back.
"Who doesn't?" Lucas blurted out.
Kingdom Albrecht wasn't a powerful kingdom in the past. After going through so many hardships, it was finally be able to rise up again, providing a great example to other kingdoms not to give up no matter what.
"Once upon a time there was a kingdom called Rosedrop. Rosedrop was a huge country with a great ruler named Aeneas Guillaume. He had a lovely wife and a beautiful baby boy."
Lucas felt a tramp in his heart. He didn't dare to think anything as he continued to listen silently.
"His wife is my twin sister, Queen Anastasia Roselle. She's your mother."
"My mother..." Lucas mumbled in disbelief. "My mother is a queen?" Tears welled up in his yellow eyes. He was a warrior and a commander of an army himself. He could guess more or less about what happened to his mother.
"Yes. She's the kindest and most beautiful queen I have ever seen. Not because she's my sister. I know it as a fact. If I'm an outsider and look at her from that perspective, I'll still tell the same."
"What happened to my mother?" Lucas asked with a shaky voice. The curiosity was killing him!
"Wait and listen. Where was I?"
"You were talking about my mother, uncle," Lucas said impatiently.
Duke Ferdinand ignored it when he heard him call him 'uncle' but he felt a little bad deep down because he considered Lucas as his own son all those years. He even kicked out his only daughter for him. But he never said that truth to Lucas.
If he knew Sahasra and her mother got thrown out because of him, he would feel guilty for sure.
When duchess Ferdinand, who was a childless woman, found out that her maid gave birth to a baby for her husband, she went crazy with fury and jealousy. She threatened her husband that if he didn't kick out the two of them, she would spread the news about Lucas's true identity. Only a very little people knew Lucas was a prince including King Edwin. That was when he got the idea of that marriage contract.
Hoping to protect Lucas's identity and secure his life and his future, at that time, Duke Ferdinand didn't have a choice rather than agreeing to his wife.
"Yes. The king and queen ruled the country together peacefully until one day... Do you know King Sarchain? The Lord Dark?"
Lucas clenched his fists when he heard that name. "Of course, why not?" He sneered. "Literally everyone fears him. King of Tallmountain, the bloodthirsty demon who wants nothing but power."
"Exactly. He became a demon after his wife's death. Rumours say his heart died that day and he never had a normal life after that. These rumours are actually true. I realised that when I checked his history. He became thirsty for power after his wife's death of course. Maybe he wanted to forget that pain by conquering other countries? That must be the case."
"And he attacked my parents' country because of that so-called thirst?" Lucas's eyes sparkled in hatred.
"Smart boy." Duke Ferdinand clicked his tongue. "He attacked without informing beforehanded. King Aeneas had to run away to save his life. He couldn't take his wife and child with him because he wasn't in the palace at that moment. His knights and other officials pleaded him to go hide so that he could save them soon."
