'𝑵𝒐𝒕 𝒎𝒆 𝑯𝒆𝒊𝒅𝒊𝒕𝒉, 𝒈𝒐 𝒂𝒘𝒂𝒚.'
Although Zadhea chanted that repeatedly on her mind, a part of her wanted him to give the star to her out of all the girls.
He himself said he would do so.
She knew that he wasn't someone to break his promises.
'𝐵𝑢𝑡...'
Zadhea bit her finger nails.
After all the pain he went through because of her cruel treatment, would he still be foolish enough to like her?
Maybe he wanted them to get along well solely because it was their duty, as well as responsibility.
He had told her that they should give their relationship a chance for their counties and people, after all.
It was all about obligation.
Responsibility.
Wasn't it?
Just as she secretly anticipated, Heidith walked up to her before reaching out.
Zadhea lowered her eyes to look at his warm, large palm that was waiting for her own. Hesitating a little, she put the back of her hand on his palm as a faint blush spread across her face.
'What are you doing, Zadhea? Are you giving him fake hopes?' The lazy system appeared in her mind out of nowhere. 'You said you don't want him to love you. I mean this isn't the option you chose. Now explain what you're doing to our poor male lead.'
'No. It's just I don't want him to get humiliated in front of everyone.'
'But why do you do this kind of a thing?'
'Shh, lady. Just wait and watch.'
The moment Zadhea's hand touched his own, Heidith's face broke into a bright smile. He knew she would accept him but he was scared. She was very talented in pushing him away when he least expected it so he thought she would do the same this time too.
Maybe...
Maybe her cold heart was finally melting for him?
His smile deepened a lot more as Heidith took out the star before putting it on Zadhea's cold palm.
"For you," He whispered.
"No. For you," Zadhea whispered back.
The smile on Heidith's face froze. He couldn't digest her words right away as he looked at her blankly.
On the other hand, Zadhea was very calm. She clutched the star on Heidith's palm before pulling her hand away.
Then, turning to others, she didn't forget to say, "The only person who deserves that star is he himself."
The crowd began whispering among themselves.
"She's just making excuses to mask the rejection. How brilliant!" The opponent boy sneered.
Heidith squinted his eyes at his words. He kept looking at Zadhea silently, demanding for answers instead of jumping into conclusions.
"Nope." Zadhea shook her head confidently. "Let me tell you guys a story."
She took a breath and continued, explaining everyone about Heidith's embarrassing incident three years ago. "Now since he won, he should be the one to keep the star, right? He needs to remember that he gained the victory. Do you agree with me?"
The people around them started nodding their heads vigorously.
The opponent boy came to Heidith and patted his back. "I'm impressed by your courage. Your trick is brilliant too. You deserve it, friend."
