" You need to get over to that awful fat man's house to rescue Alfred ! ," Dodie snapped as she drove back to the magazine office in her 2024 hybrid cherry red sports car , talking to her brother's ex fiance on her latest iPhone. " That man is practically holding him hostage ! I don't know why. He has money so it can't be for Alfred's trust fund from Daddy and Granddaddy. "

Scott sighed as he sat at his desk in the Washington Reign newspaper office finishing up his article on rising crime rates in the metropolitan area. The last thing he needed right now was Dodie Angeletti. He had always found the woman to be very obnoxious and overbearing. " No. I don't. I'm tired of chasing the man. He apparently doesn't want me. His mistake. I'm moving on. " His eyes oddly softened as he thought of the handsome impossibly insufferable and snobby Alexi Vokouv who had a surprising soft side if you dug really deep for it. Really deep. Far down deep.

" Why won't anyone listen to me ! ," she snapped as she hung up on him and tossed her phone in the passenger seat next to her. She gritted her teeth. Story of her life. Nobody ever took her seriously. About anything. Not her mother. Not her brother. Not Tony. Why couldn't they ever see all the wrongs she did? , she fussed silently as she aimed the car through a red light idly just as a young Black teenaged boy stepped in front of her car at the crosswalk. It happened so fast that even Dodie was startled when her car crashed into the boy to send him flying in the air like a graceful bird until he landed with a loud hard thud back on the paved road.

Dodie's car came to a sudden stop a few paces from the boy. She tried to restart it and drive away but to her horror it wouldn't. Fuck , she thought as she saw too many people, Black and White, noticing what had happened and running over to the boy in the street. They were all pointing at her and yelling. Some were filming with their phones. Dodie quickly locked her doors and rolled up the windows before trying to drive off again unsuccessfully.

That stupid boy ! , she thought. Why would he just run into the street like that? Stupid child !

Keisha Duncan ran out of her cafe at the sound of the accident. Fear and anger contorted her face as she saw the boy lying in the street not moving.

" Jamal ! ," she screamed as she raced over to her unconscious son. As she pulled out her cell phone from her messy cafe apron she shouted at Dodie who still cowered in the car ," You White bitch ! You hit my son ! "

A small crowd of screaming people surrounded the car banging on the sides and screaming at Dodie who quickly pulled out her cell phone and dialed a number.

Jacob Giadello answered with a brisk and impatient " What now? "

Dodie screeched ," I think I'm in trouble.  I need you to make this go away, cousin."
