Keisha Duncan was planning to go to the funeral of Dr. Kendall that day after she got Jamal settled at the Moss Center and checked with the new director there Shawn Fuller about what his occupational and speech therapy would consist of, how long he would have to stay , the feasibility of his doing his classwork via the remote learning his principal had agreed on so he wouldn't fall behind too much etc etc etc. But then she had received the text from Oscar saying that he had been informed the headmaster was taking a personal day so he was needed at the school. That had oddly disappointed her for some reason. Not that she really wanted to go. She had only intended to attend because she and Ariel were getting closer as friends and she felt she should show up as a sign of sympathy. Of course her brother and Bliss had went too. All in all in the end she chose to not attend. She hated funerals after all. What she did do was send a text message to Ariel with her sympathies and had a  flower arrangement delivered to the Kendall house. Then she went to the cafe and checked on whether it was still standing. It was of course. Her staff was actually very efficient although she only had a small crew working for her; one in the kitchen and one for the front. Afterwards she decided to take a drive.

How she ended up in the bed of her ex lover and  baby's daddy Bullet Lane she had no idea. But in Bullet's bed she found herself. Of course afterwards she had pulled herself together and as he smirked at her in that cocky way of his she had quickly dressed , silently thanked God she had made him use a rubber and sneaked out of his place before his daddy Panther saw her there.

When she arrived back home she was feeling both defeated and depressed. She needed a nap before Nicole got home. Then she remembered she planned to take her daughter over to the UUC church to talk to Joy Jones.

She didn't move from the driver's seat though. Just sat there behind the steering wheel wondering how her life had gotten to this point. Her smart sensitive son Jamal with all his promise was in rehab facility with traumatic brain injury. Her daughter had literally held people hostage and shot a man right in front of her. Nicole was lucky to be still walking around free ! Her mother was talking again about how she needed to find her a good responsible Black Christian man. Her other son she just didn't understand with half of what he said. Justin was more flighty than Jamal really. And her every last thought lately was about wanting revenge on that Angeletti woman. It was getting to the point that her only solace was her brother and...... Oscar.

She didn't want to stress out Jeremiah. He was starting the firm from scratch and finally in a another real relationship with a good woman she actually liked. He was finally finding his own place in the world as a post op transman. She wasn't bout to burden him anymore with her issues.

And , she didn't know what to think about Oscar Oswell. How she felt about him. How he felt about her. She had never met a man like him. He was so intelligent, old fashioned, gentle, sweet. It was like he wasn't of this world.

She laughed to herself. Now she sounded like her mama. What she needed to do was have some fun again. Maybe go out to eat with DuBuis and Faith now that she had connected with them. They were really nice in spite of being related to Bullet. Of course they would bring their partners and she would just feel like a third wheel or something.

She sighed. Maybe Mama was right. She needed to find a good man. Except the man that came to her head wasn't the Black Christian paragon of virtue Mama wanted. It was Oscar with his messy brown curls and shy brown eyes. Lord , why did it feel like she was catching feelings for this White man? , she mused as her phone dinged with a text notification.

She checked it and was surprised to find it was from Oscar at work.

Oscar : I'm sorry I couldn't escort you to the funeral. But if you would be interested I would like to take you out to eat on perhaps this Sunday night? Dr. HighTower talks highly about Richard and Nigel's.

She found herself smiling softly and her fingers almost instinctively texted back promptly " yes , I would love to go out with you".
