" I'm not staying in any cheesy probably bug infested motel ," Joe complained as he stared at the email from the courthouse and Richard Norland on his phone as he and Winston sat in bed.
Winston sighed. He didn't want his husband to be separated from him but what else could they do? Joe couldn't just disobey Richard's order. He signed," Baby , you have to go. And it will not be the Four Seasons but it may be still nice. It will not be for long. The case should be over by end of week. Then jury deliberation. Then you will be home again with me. "
Joe looked at his husband and shook his head. " I don't want to leave you alone. What if something happens to you while I'm not here? Like before? And you know I can't sleep without you anymore."
Winston leaned over to kiss him before signing once more," Look. I will be just fine. We have good security now and your gun. Just enjoy the hotel and try to behave. It will not be long. "
Joe snorted unhappily at him and crossed his arms like an overgrown toddler with a bad toothache. Then he began to smile widely. " I know ! You can come too ! "
Winston rolled his eyes. This man. Honestly. He signed," I can not. I am not on the jury. Unfortunately. This is not a vacation. It is a civic duty. Remember? "
Joe shook his head. " It's a pain in the ass ! That's what it is. A grade A pain in the ass. "
Winston barked out a hoarse laugh as he signed," You mean like your grade A sperm? "
Joe cut his eyes at Winston.
Winston burst out laughing.
After a few seconds Joe joined the laughing.
Then on the tv which was tuned to the local nightly news the perky news anchor began to talk enthusiastically about a news story.
Apparently the prosecutor in the Dodie Angeletti hit and run trial, Paul Paterson, had been ambushed and beaten in the parking garage at the courthouse. He had been taken to St. Paul's for treatment and released soon after. According to the courthouse the already upped security was going to be even more stringent now.
Joe stopped laughing and looked worried. " Civic duty , huh ? I didn't know just how dangerous it could be. "
Winston looked at his husband and suddenly had a bad feeling about this case.
