Keisha had been responding to a text message from that nice White man with the hankie in her son's hospital room as he slept when she looked up and saw the one man in the doorway she wished she had never met. Well not really though because if they had never been together she would not have her precious kids.
Bullet Lane.
He grinned at her in that mischievous way of his. Like he had just stolen some candy and was willing to share. Damn. The man was forty like her and still gorgeous as fuck.
" What the fuck do you want? ," she whispered harshly as she tried not to wake up her son. " I told you to keep away from my children. "
Bullet's grin slipped. He strode over to her where she sat erectly beside the bed. He leaned too close. Way too close. And smelled way too nice , she realized with a sinking feeling in her stomach.
" He my kid too. And he been hurt. How you think I'm not going to be here, bitch ? "
Keisha snapped," Your daddy threaten you into coming? "
The way he fell silent and wouldn't look at her proved that was the reason he was standing on his size twelve feet in front of her in an expensive pair of baggy jeans and a basketball jersey. Smelling like that...... Bastard. Why couldn't she have fallen for someone nice ? Like that Oscar...... Her mama always said she did everything the hard way. She hated when Mama was right.
" Ain't got nothing to do with that old man. "
Keisha snorted. " Get out. "
" No. Wake him up. Now. "
" No. "
Bullet narrowed his eyes just as DuBuis Lane and Faith Lane stepped into the hospital room. He turned around and cussed.
" What the hell you two doing here? "
Keisha hissed ," Don't you be cussing around my child. "
Bullet rolled his eyes. " He sleeping, woman. And he almost eighteen. Stop making him into a bitch like Buis here. "
Faith widened her eyes at the insult to her brother and stepped forward towards her cousin only to be stopped by DuBuis who merely said," We didn't come here to fight. "
Bullet sneered at him. " What you know about fighting? Go home to your White boy in the wheelchair. "
" Shut up , Bullet," Faith snapped.
DuBuis put a restraining hand on his sister's shoulder and ignored their cousin to talk directly to Keisha. " I know you don't know us , Keisha, but I'm DuBuis Lane and this is my sister Faith. Marvin and Jenessa's kids. This fool cousin. Our uncle told us what happened to Jamal. We came to offer our sympathy and also say if you all need anything from us we're here. You're family. "
Bullet said rudely ," Get out of here with all that talking. Ain't nobody studding your nappy wanna be White ass. With your book learning and your college. "
Keisha had had enough. She stood up and stared at her ex lover. " No. You leave, Bullet. Now. They stay. "
