In the lab in St. Paul's Hospital Center Ethan Stone rolled up his dress shirt sleeve for the too cheerful for the morning tech to draw blood from his arm. Zipp might be depressed about Diamond , Flower and the kidney situation but Ethan was not going to let the man just crawl up and die. Zipp Dennis meant way too much to him for that. He always had.

Zipp had always been afraid of needles. All his life. Now look at him , he thought ironically as he forced bravery into his heart and head as the staff hooked him up to the dialysis machine in his hospital room while he sat up in bed.

" Relax , dear ," the older Black woman said kindly as she smiled at him. " I know it's strange but it's also necessary. It'll take a few hours and you might feel a little sick or dizzy but overall it'll be painless. You can read or listen to music on your phone. My sister is on dialysis herself. She enjoys listening to Reese Malden. Such a good singer. Pity about his poor husband. "

They said she had a visitor. Dodie was expecting one of her lawyers even though they should be busy selecting a jury to get her out of this mess. That was what she was paying them too much money for after all. But when she entered the room she saw a face she hadn't expected and didn't particularly want to see.

Her husband Tony.

" What do you want? ," Dodie snapped tersely as she stood in her orange jumpsuit and flat shoes , her black hair pulled back in a simple braid down her back. Her beautiful face looked strained and irritated. " Come to gloat? After all your whore already stole my job. Her and that traitor personal assistant of mine. Little bitches."

Tony shook his head as he sat in the chair watching her with an unsmiling face. " No. I wanted to know if you were okay. We are still married. You are the mother of my children. "

Dodie laughed harshly. " Right. You do realize that if you hadn't decided to leave me for Grandma Margaret none of this would have happened to me?  I would still be in Pennsylvania. Go away, Tony. I don't care where you go. Just leave here. "

Then she looked at the guard who stood by the door. " Take me back to my cell. "

Her home away from home, she thought bitterly.
