" What do you mean someone tried to kill my daughter ! ," Glory snapped tersely at the young doctor that had just come out of Dodie's hospital room.

The man had the common decency to look ashamed which he should because what kind of a hospital were they running at St. Paul's? Letting a vulnerable patient be attacked and almost smothered with a damn pillow, one of their own pillows in her own room? Ridiculous ! Of course this was the same hospital where they let a mentally deranged woman like Pamela escape with another disturbed patient after trying to kill a visitor they had kidnapped. The same hospital that allowed Joe Jacobs to be kidnapped from his own room. And nobody had forgotten that DuBuis and Angel had very nearly been killed themselves by a gunman last year. Why the place hadn't been sued was beyond her.

" Did you all even notify the police? ," she retorted sharply as she channeled her former persona as Franco Giadello's once upon a time wife who could hold her own easily with him and his whole family of overly macho too confident and arrogant family members. Some wet behind the ears doctor who looked like he had just started shaving didn't scare her.

The doctor said ," We did notify security. After we successfully resuscitated your daughter, ma'am. "

Glory rolled her eyes at him. Like she really trusted security. She pulled out her cell phone and made a call swiftly.

" Browne, Homicide. "

" Detective Browne. This is Glory Norland. Unfortunately I am at St. Paul's Hospital Center where my daughter has been almost killed again. Just a few minutes ago she was alone in her room and someone attempted to smother her. I would like her to have police protection asap. "

Nita Browne said firmly," This is the first I'm hearing about this, ma'am. My partner and I will be over to take statements. As for protection I don't know if we can. I'll run it by my lieutenant but with the budget cuts I doubt it. What I recommend is getting your own security for her as we investigate. Gaines Investigation is good. Dom Gaines , who runs it , is a former cop himself from up in New York. "

Glory sighed. " Whatever happened to protect and serve? Never mind. What have you learned so far? "

Nita hesitated before saying," The investigation is proceeding. We are looking through all possible options. I can't tell you very much about an ongoing investigation. But I will say we questioned two potential suspects today. "

Glory thinned her lips. " And ? "

" I myself and my partner don't think these two are good for it. But we are still searching for viable suspects, trust me on that. Again I recommend....."

" Yes. Yes. I know. Getting my own security to protect my daughter although that's your job. Thank you so much for your help. "

She swiftly hung up and then from behind her heard someone mumble," Maybe if she wasn't such a hideous cold bitch people wouldn't want her dead. "

She turned around to see who had spoken those awful words but all she saw was three nurses near the nursing station pretending not to see her as they" discussed " a patient's chart.

Glory rubbed at her head which was beginning to throb and then she began to look up contact information for Gaines Investigation on her phone.
