DuBuis dropped the filled trash bag on the sidewalk outside of their house next to the recycling basket full of separated plastic bottles and paper.
He was about to head back to the house when suddenly from next door he heard Jonah Simms calling out with a smirk on his round brown face," Hey , Lane , how you like our new neighbors? Especially him. " Then he laughed heartily.
DuBuis rolled his eyes at the man. He was not about to start feuding with the husband the way Spencer was LuLu but truthfully the man next door pissed him off. He was way too jovial for his liking. Like a demented Santa Claus really. And he reminded him of his late mother's second husband Sam AKA Santa Fats Johnson. That was not a good thing.
" What bout him , Jonah ? I haven't met them yet. "
Jonah's eyes twinkled merrily at him. "Really? Surprised about that one. Your husband has. " He laughed harder. " I saw the two of them in that fancy restaurant of your brother in law's. You know that shyster lawyer turned judge doing the case my wife on. They were sitting awful close and he was looking up in the man's eyes like some lost puppy dog. And he was holding Aiden Norris's hand. Wouldn't be me. But I have a faithful wife. Cause our marriage is real. "
DuBuis suddenly wanted to punch this man. He wasn't upset with Spencer. He trusted his husband. Spencer would never cheat on him. Then again, he thought as his eyes went to the house across the street, what did he know about this new neighbor? Spencer, even at forty one, could be naive. Was it possible that this guy was another Skip Sands trying to victimize his husband?
Then before he could respond back to Jonah who was still laughing the door to the Simms house popped open with LuLu running outside, saying," Jonah , honey bun , I just got an email from the courthouse ! That bougie judge brother of Wheels is putting us on the jury up in a hotel until the case is over! How nice! I hope it's a really nice place. Maybe the Marriott. Or the Embassy Suites! Or the Hilton! Come help me pack. Daddy said he'll watch the triplets ! "
