Episode 16

Theodore was feeling nervous and anxious for no particular reason as he sat in the back of the Barrington Academy bus after school. He was trying to call Alan but it just kept ringing and going to voicemail which was odd because Alan usually always picked up on the second or third ring. And his text messages were not being responded to. That worried him even more. His boyfriend and bestie never ever ignored texts. Exactly how sick was he? , Theodore wondered as he tried to ignore Luci bickering with Willow Malden and Franco Angeletti mean mugging Sol who was trying his own best to ignore the bully.

His phone rang. He looked at it and got excited because he saw it was from Alan.

" Hey , Allie , hon , feeling better? ," he asked as he answered.

But it wasn't Alan.

It was Alan's mother Ariel Kendall who tried so hard to be the " fire " mom. She was always telling him to call her Ariel which was kinda weird to him but whatever.

Ariel sounded tired as she said," Theodore, I've seen you called a while ago. You called a lot. "

His pale skin flushed red out of embarrassment. " Yeah. Ummm. I.... I just wanted to check on Allie. He went home sick from school. Is he okay? "

And why was she calling on Alan's phone? Ariel never touched her sons' belongings because she said trust was important or something like that.

She was quiet for a long time. Too long. And, he was starting to freak out to the point he balled his hand into a fist and began to beat the top of the seat in front of him. Luci turned around and snapped," Hey , knock it off, Theo - Dore !"

Finally she spoke again. " Theodore, there was an accident. A car accident. My husband..... Alan's dad was..... killed. And , Alan ..... has been hurt. He's.... not waking up.... Theodore, he's in a coma. "

Theodore blinked his eyes behind his glasses. He licked his suddenly dry lips. He opened his mouth to speak. To ask how. Why.

But all that came out was a loud shrill scream that had everyone on the bus looking at him , laughing and pointing.

Luci and Sol looked alarmed.

Sol grabbed his arm and said ," Theo , what the hell wrong with you, boy ? "
