Chase Davenport and Diana sat comfortably on the Davenport household's plush, modern sofa, textbooks and notes scattered across the coffee table in front of them. They were supposed to be studying for their upcoming geography exam, but the intense focus they usually shared had fizzled out. Both were tired and in need of a break.
Diana leaned back against the cushions, exhaling in frustration. "Ugh, I can't memorize another capital today. My brain is fried."
Chase smirked, eyes glinting with mischief. "Come on, you're not giving up that easily. Here, I'll quiz you."
He stood up from the sofa abruptly, pulling off his shirt in one swift motion. Diana's eyes widened as he tossed the shirt onto the back of the couch. He wasn't trying to show off—well, maybe a little—but his athletic, bionic-enhanced physique couldn't go unnoticed.
"What are you doing?" Diana asked, half-laughing, half-exasperated, trying not to stare too obviously at him.
Chase grinned as he sat back down beside her, his bare shoulder brushing hers. "Just trying to make studying more... interesting. Now, focus. What's the capital of Australia?"
"Canberra," she answered, keeping her eyes fixed on the notebook in her lap, trying to play it cool.
"Good. What about Egypt?"
"Cairo."
"Nice. Now, a trickier one. What's the capital of South Africa?"
Diana thought for a moment, her brows furrowing. "It has three, right? Pretoria, Bloemfontein, and Cape Town?"
Chase nodded approvingly. "You got it! Okay, last question." His voice dropped a little lower, his teasing smile softening. "Who's the most handsome man you've ever seen?"
Diana glanced at him, her pulse quickening. His proximity, the casual way he leaned in, and the light-hearted tone sent a flutter through her. Without thinking, she blurted out, "Chase Davenport."
There was a brief pause as Chase's smirk transformed into something more serious. His hazel eyes locked with hers, searching her expression. And then, without a word, he leaned in and pressed his lips gently to hers.
Diana froze for a second, caught off guard by the unexpected kiss, but then she melted into it, closing her eyes as her hand instinctively found his arm. The kiss was soft and sweet, filled with unspoken emotions.
Suddenly, the sound of a plate clattering from the kitchen snapped them out of the moment.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa! What is going on here?" Leo's voice rang out in shock.
Chase and Diana broke apart immediately, both looking toward the kitchen doorway, where Leo stood with a sandwich in hand, his jaw hanging open in disbelief.
"Uh, Leo—" Chase stammered, his face flushed as he scrambled to sit up straighter, instinctively grabbing his discarded shirt and pulling it back on.
Diana's face was equally red, and she quickly picked up a random textbook to pretend to focus on it, though the heat in her cheeks betrayed her.
Leo's eyes flicked between the two of them, then he raised an eyebrow. "You know, if this is what geography study sessions are like, I might need to join."
Chase groaned, running a hand through his hair in embarrassment. "Leo, it's not what it looks like."
"Yeah, sure. I'll just leave you two lovebirds alone," Leo teased, backing away with his sandwich and heading up the stairs, still chuckling to himself.
Chase turned to Diana, who was biting her lip to keep from laughing. "Well, that was... unexpected," he muttered.
Diana smiled, her eyes twinkling as she nudged him playfully. "Maybe we should stick to capitals next time."
Chase grinned, relieved by her lighthearted response. "Yeah, maybe."
But as they resumed their study session, both knew that things between them had changed—perhaps for the better.
