As the Quinjet touches down on the Avengers Compound landing platform, a wave of anticipation sweeps through the air. Nick Fury stands beside the platform, arms crossed, with his usual stoic expression fixed on Donald Davenport, his bionic kids Adam, Bree, Chase, and their younger non-bionic brother, Leo. Fury's eye sharpens as he takes in the group before him, still uncertain of what exactly they'll bring to the Avengers.
Davenport, eager to introduce his team, steps forward, "Director Fury, this is my team: Adam, Bree, Chase, and Leo. They're ready to prove themselves."
Fury nods, though his gaze stays critical. "We'll see, Mr. Davenport. Let's get you settled in first."
As he leads them into the compound, voices echo from down the hall, drawing them toward the commotion. Fury's calm demeanor cracks slightly as they approach the common area, where a chaotic scene unfolds. Steve Rogers is attempting to restrain Bucky Barnes, whose face is filled with rage as he glares daggers at Sam Wilson. Nearby, Tony Stark and Bruce Banner are working on stabilizing a girl lying on the floor—a teenage girl with dark hair, her face pale and body limp.
"Diana!" Bucky's voice is ragged as he yells his daughter's name, struggling against Steve's grip.
Diana stirs, her eyes fluttering open as she softly murmurs, "Dad..."
Bucky breaks free of Steve's hold, rushing to her side, his face crumbling as he falls to his knees. Tears streak down his face as he gathers her in his arms, whispering her name over and over, pressing frantic kisses to her forehead and cheeks. Tony steps back, washing his hands, and joins Fury's group, who are watching the scene in stunned silence.
"Mission went south," Tony explains, running a tired hand through his hair. "The Sergeant here doesn't take kindly to seeing his girl hurt. Sam didn't cause it, but—" he sighs, glancing at Bucky, "Barnes has a hard time holding back when it comes to Diana."
Chase's eyes stay glued to Diana, and a faint tear glistens on his cheek. Clint Barton, who catches the look, nudges Chase. "Go on, kid. She'll want to see you."
Chase steps forward tentatively, his heart racing as Diana's face lights up. She wipes her father's tears from his cheeks, giving him a gentle smile, and then spots Chase. She motions him over, and in a second, Chase is on his knees beside her, pulling her into his arms. Diana wraps her arms around his neck, hugging him close as she laughs softly.
Bucky finally looks up, his tear-filled eyes meeting Chase's. Recognition flickers across Bucky's face as he recalls Diana's stories about her "friend from Mission Creek High." Realizing this is the same boy she'd confided in, Bucky raises a brow, noting the shared look between them.
"Come here, kid," Bucky murmurs, pulling Chase in for a firm hug before ruffling his hair. "Look, I don't know why you two stopped talking, but... let's fix it. I'll talk to Fury about you being a permanent member."
Chase's blush deepens, but he nods gratefully. As Bucky gives him a playful push toward Diana, Chase stumbles forward, nearly falling into her lap. Diana rolls her eyes, giving her dad a playful glare, then pulls Chase close, peppering his cheeks with affectionate lipstick-stained kisses.
Bree's voice breaks the moment. "Fury, who... who is she?"
"That's Diana Barnes," Fury answers, folding his arms. "She's been living undercover in Mission Creek and mentioned a 'best friend' she got close to. Told her dad they'd fallen out, though."
Adam, with a clueless grin, elbows Leo. "So, uh... she single?"
Leo's eyes widen, but before he can respond, Fury interjects, "Highly doubtful, Adam. From what we know, her type is... smart, well-built, maybe a little headstrong."
Natasha smirks, arching a brow. "Kind of sounds like her dad, doesn't it? Smart, strong—although, a little hot-headed sometimes." She jabs Bucky playfully in the ribs, only to receive a swift kick to her heels in return.
"My daughter is forbidden to date till she's 40," Bucky grumbles, folding his arms.
Diana pouts, giving her dad an innocent look. "Dad, come on..."
Steve takes a jab, grinning at his best friend. "Father of the year here—scaring away suitors left and right."
Bucky scoffs, swatting Steve over the head, while Chase hides his face against Diana's neck, cheeks blazing as she hugs him close, her own laughter shaking her shoulders. She turns to him, and, caught up in the moment, Chase presses his lips to hers. Diana smiles and kisses him back, completely unaware that the adults have stopped to witness the moment.
"Ah, I knew it!" Tony shouts from across the room, pumping his fist. "Hand over the cash, Rogers and Wilson!"
Steve and Sam groan, clearly irritated as they reach into their pockets. Sam gives Diana a pointed look, shaking his head. "So you had a boyfriend and didn't tell us?"
"Not boyfriend, Uncle Sam," Diana corrects with a wink. "This is the boyfriend."
Bucky runs a hand over his face, sighing. He moves behind the sofa, placing his arms protectively on the back of it. Diana senses him close by, and she turns around with a playful pout.
"Please, Daddy?" she asks, giving him a pleading look.
Bucky holds his breath, glancing from his daughter to Chase, who now looks equally uncertain. Finally, Bucky's face softens as he places a gentle hand on her shoulder. He looks at Chase, nodding slowly.
"Alright. But don't think this means I won't be watching," he says, his voice gruff but warm.
Chase relaxes, reaching for Diana's hand. They exchange a smile, their hands interlocked as the bionic heroes and Avengers realize this mission has brought something special to light—new friendships, budding romance, and the unexpected bonds that make them more than just a team.
