We check into the bnb that is thankfully ran by a mother and her 19 year old daughter and not the government. They kindly let us stay here for free. Ella is friends with someone who knows them so she set us up.

They seem really nice and they reserved this full place just for us.

We're planning on ambushing the prime minister tomorrow but nobody knows of my dilemma.

I don't even know if there's even a real problem or if it was just a one-time fluke with my powers.

"Blue?" Niko says, snapping me out of my thoughts. "Are you ok?" He asks.

I nod my head slightly with a soft smile.

It seems to make his worry worsen but he doesn't press any further.

I stay quiet as everyone settles in, only answering some questions from the mother and daughter who kindly let us stay in their home. They give up paying customers so we can be here, I feel like I owe them some answers.

After a little while, Niko pulls me away to our bedroom.

"Are you ok?" I ask him.

"No, because you're not." He states. "What's wrong?"

"I thought I was fine after what happened the other day, but now I'm not so sure."

"You were poisoned, Maliah. Everyone else that was poisoned died, I don't expect you to be ok. Nobody does."

"No, I mean physically. I don't feel the same."

"What do you mean?" He asks.

"Back at the bar, when we were getting attacked, I tried to use my powers. Niko, they didn't work. I can normally feel the energy radiating off nearby water, but now I can barely feel it. I don't know what's happening to me."

He nods while thinking of something.

"Maybe you just need to try something smaller and try and build your powers back up."

"I've spent my entire life building up my powers, I can't get my strength back in one day."

"You already know how to wield and use them, that's a big step."

"But what if I can't get them back?"

"You can't be sure." He says before going to the bathroom to fill a glass of water. He places it on the table before moving away from it.

He doesn't speak. He lets me go at my own pace without pressure.

I close my eyes and try to get a feel for my powers.

I can feel the water but only slightly. I divert my full attention to the feel of the water, but no matter how hard I try and grasp onto it, it's not enough.

If I don't have my powers, then what?

I've never lived without powers. They've been there my full life.
