Nikolai's POV:
We had to leave her.
Alone.
On the cold, hard ground all alone. Surrounded in a pool of her own blood.
Despite what she said in her dying breaths, I still blame myself. I should've seen the guard. I should've stopped him.
Now Emma is dead and we all have to act like nothing is wrong for the good of the world.
I'm going to kill every last one of them. Fuck being the good guy.
I take a deep breath and regain my composure.
"Are you ok?" I ask as we meet back up with Maliah.
"Me? Yeah, I'm good, are you ok?"
"I'm ok." I tell her. I'm physically ok but after what I've just witnessed, I wouldn't use the term ok.
She looks at me sceptically. "Are you sure?" She asks. "You look a bit unwell."
"I'm fine. It's nothing I can't deal with."
"Did you find the security room?" She questions.
"No. The locked door was just a break room."
I feel the strange need to hug her, to bring her close but I know in these circumstances it would raise suspicion.
"I love you." I tell her. It is a little out of the blue to be saying but I do randomly remind her of the fact.
"I love you too." She replies, although, I think she knows something is wrong.
"Ok, we need to keep looking." She states and I follow after her with my mask made of stone.
I had to send Josh and Jameson out of here. They were fucking devastated. I am too but I can keep it together for now. If they stayed down here, they probably would've ended up making careless mistakes because of their grief. I'm using it to fuel me.
Either way, Maliah would stay down here and I'm sure as hell not leaving her alone with these bastards. Emma was a very good friend to not just me but everyone. Losing her is one thing but Maliah is my lifeline. If she dies, I won't come back from that.
