My mother shows us to the portal which is hidden in the garden behind the palace far away from prying eyes. There are some buttons she presses before a white beam emmits from it. She places a kiss upon my head And tells me to be safe. We each place one of our hands on it like she tells us to. A moment later, I feel a rush of light-headedness and then we've returned to earth.
My eyes scan the room, as does Niko's. We're back in the earth space station.
The government space station.
My eyes widen, my body now on high alert. "We need to get out of here."
I turn to see the door we used only a few days ago but it's locked.
"Niko?" I say, silently asking if he can pick the lock.
"Allow me." He says and less than two minutes later, we're outside.
We've just started walking away from the building when we hear a shout. "Hey, you two aren't meant to be here." Our heads swivel back to see one of the guards pointing at us.
Niko and I look to each other, basically saying "oh shit" with our eyes before Niko grabs my arm and we start running away.
We can hear the patter of multiple running footsteps behind us but that just makes the two of us go faster.
We manage to lose the group of guards by taking some sharp turns and hiding amongst groups of normal people.
When we're sure that no one is following us anymore, the two of us slow and come to a stop to catch our breaths.
We burst into laughter at the same time which makes both of us lose even more breath.
"How do we always manage to escape by the skin on our teeth?" Niko says, humour clear in his voice.
"That was crazy." I state.
"That was crazy?" Niko asks. "I just went to an alien planet. Full of aliens. Blindly, might I add."
"So how did you know where I was?" I question as we slowly start walking again.
"I had no clue where you were. I had just assumed that it was related to you falling into that big machine thing since there was a big light and then you disappeared."
"Then what did you do?"
"I clicked a bunch of buttons and ended up in a different, unrecognisable place. I walked around a little until I saw you. I wanted to run straight over to you but I figured I should give you some time with what I had assumed was your family. If I'd have known they were setting you up on a date I would've intervened."
"And done what exactly?" I ask.
"Knocked the fucker out for even looking in your direction."
"I'm flattered but I don't think that would've gone over very well. You would've been arrested on the spot. Even without punching him you were trespassing."
