The Tale of Ely Senju

Chapter 3

Ely POV

Today was my first day at the academy. Kakashi accompanied me to the gate of the academy, where he knelt down to me and smiled warmly. 'Be nice, okay? Always listen carefully and don't get distracted. Try to make friends. Have a good day.' He then kissed me on the forehead, and I said goodbye. I walked towards the entrance and turned round once more to wave to Kakashi.

Kakashi POV

It was a strange feeling to accompany Ely to the academy and then see her walk into the building. After she turned round again and waved to me, I walked to the Hokage tower. The third Hokage, who had a mission for me, was already waiting for me there. Ely would be picked up by him after the academy and stay there until I got back to Konoha.

Ely POV

I had barely walked through the door to the academy when two people came up to me. 'Hey, you must be new here too. I'm Nao and this is Ryoko. We're starting the academy today too. I was worried about being the youngest, but I'm glad you two are going to the academy too and starting today. Oh. Sorry, I'm so excited that I'm talking so much.' With an embarrassed look, Nao looked at me and smiled. 'Hey, Nao and Ryoko. My name is Ely.' 'Hello Ely. Let's go to the classroom. The teacher must be waiting for us.' The three of us walked to the room where the lesson would take place. Before we could open the room, someone suddenly stood behind us.

'Hello Ely, Nao and Ryoko. I'm Iruna, your teacher. Let's go into the room and then please introduce yourselves to the class.' We all nodded and entered the room together with Sensei Iruna. Sensei Iruna turned to the class, and we stood next to her. 'Good morning. We have a new addition. These are your new classmates Ryoko, Nao and Ely. Please, you three, introduce yourselves briefly.' Ryoko was the first to take a step forward to introduce himself. 'My name is Ryoko Urio and I'm seven years old.' Everyone in the room greeted Ryoko. Then Nao stepped forward and introduced herself. 'Hello, my name is Nao and I'm also seven years old.' Everyone in the room greeted Nao too. Then it was my turn and so I also took a step forward. 'Hello, my name is Ely Senju and I'm four years old.' A murmur went round the room, but everyone greeted me too.

'So, you three, there are three seats next to each other in the last row, please take a seat there.' The three of us then walked to the last row and took our seats. Nao sat beside the wall, I sat next to her and Ryoko sat on my other side. The first day at the academy was relatively quiet. Every now and then I noticed that the other children looked at us from some distance, but I skilfully tried to ignore this. During the breaks, Ryoko, Nao and I sat together and talked about all sorts of things. After the first day was over, I couldn't wait to tell Kakashi about everything. When I didn't see him, I didn't worry at first because he was always late. So, I sat down on the swing and waited, because he really wanted to pick me up. Nao and Ryoko had already been picked up by their parents. Grandad Sarutobi came walking round the corner. 'Hello Ely, you're coming with us again. Kakashi is on a mission.' 'Hello grandfather. No problem, I'll tell you everything and Kakashi will be told at another time.' 'That's what we'll do.' Together we walked to the Sarutobi residence. On the way there, I told Grandpa everything that had happened today and that I had made two friends.

The next few weeks were the same for me. We went to the academy in the morning, where we learnt all sorts of things, like kunai throwing and simple jutsus. I always spent the breaks with Ryoko and Nao and after the day at the academy I was either picked up by Grandpa Sarutobi or his son. After about eight weeks, Kakashi came back from his mission and wanted to pick me up from the academy.

'Bye Ely, see you tomorrow.' 'Bye Nao. Bye Ryoko. See you tomorrow.' After we had said goodbye to each other, I sat down on the swing and waited for Kakashi. After what felt like hours, he finally turned up.

Kakashi POV

The mission was finally over, and I was able to pick Ely up from the academy. I was really looking forward to what she had to tell me. When I arrived at the academy, I was walking through the gate when Ely came running towards me. 'Niichan, you're back and you're late.' She put her hands on her hips and gave me a mischievous look. 'Sorry, Ely. There was a...' I couldn't finish my sentence as Ely was already running off. 'Yes, yes. A black cat crossed your path. How many times I've heard that. Who can believe it. You've simply adopted the mannerisms of your deceased friend. Let's go home now. I have so much to tell you.' You really can't fool her. When we got home, we sat down on the floor in the living room and Ely began to tell me everything she had experienced in the last few weeks. 'On the first day, I made two friends straight away, Nao and Ryoko. We've been inseparable ever since. We've learnt a lot about the history of Konoha. We also do a lot of kunai and taijutsu training. We are currently being taught simple jutsu, such as transformation jutsu or shadow clone jutsu.' The gleam in her eyes was very clear to see. We spent the rest of the day talking about what had happened over the last few weeks and I was very pleased to see Ely blossoming.
