Ely POVOne day later, we were standing on the training ground waiting for our sensei. Ryoko stood in front of us, both hands on his hips and his cheeks puffed out in frustration. 'He said training and now we have to catch bells. What's the point, we're already genin.' Nao and I grinned at each other because we had already talked about it. So, Nao stood up and stood in front of Ryoko. 'Ryoko, he wants to test our teamwork. We have to work together as a team to get the bells.' She then sat back down next to me and Ryoko sat down as well. We waited a little until our sensei came striding towards us.
'Hello, you three. Are you ready?' A clear 'Yes!' came from all three of us. With a smile on his lips, he bent down to us. 'Then, try to get these two bells off me. If you succeed, you've passed and if not, you don't want to know. Therefore, let's go!' Nao, Ryoko and I disappeared straight into the bushes. We need a plan first. Nao looked at us and started whispering. 'Ely, I know you're incredibly good at detecting chakra and knowing where this person is, plus you already have a fully trained Sharingan. If he gets too close to us, please warn us.' I nodded and activated my Sharingan with three Tomeo. 'Okay, we need a good plan.' Ryoko looked at us both, waiting. Then an idea came to me. 'Ryoko, you're incredibly good at throwing shuriken. My idea, is that you Ryoko, throw shuriken at him and he will either deflect them or dodge them. If he dodges them, Nao will corner him with her Wind Release and then I'll catch him in a genjutsu with my Sharingan. Then you Ryoko take the bells, and I'll end the genjutsu. If he blocks the shuriken, I'll use my Fire Release to make him dodge. Then Nao will use her Wind Release and you Ryoko will use your Lightning Release.' Ryoko's eyes began to shine. 'And when we have him where we want him, you'll put him into a genjutsu with your sharingan. That's a great plan.' Nao agreed with Ryoko and then looked back at me. 'Ely, do you notice anything in his chakra?' 'He's very relaxed. We should start while he's still so relaxed. But make sure he doesn't catch us.'
We put our plan into action and Ryoko threw several shuriken in the direction of our sensei, but as expected, he blocked every shuriken. So, plan B it is! I jumped out of my hiding place and at the same moment I made the hand signs for my jutsu. 'Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique' with which I expel a large fireball out of my mouth, causing Sensei Jumo to jump out of the way. Before he could land, Nao called out 'Wind Release: Wind Cutter Technique' and Ryoko 'Lightning Release: Lightning Ball'. This caused him to land as we had hoped and so he was now right in front of me, and I was able to catch him in a genjutsu with my sharingan. Ryoko quickly ran towards him and took both bells. Now Nao and Ryoko were standing next to me, and I released the Genjutsu and deactivated my Sharingan.
Sensei Jumo looked at the three of us in surprise. 'I'm thrilled. That was incredibly precise and good teamwork. Nao, your Wind Release is already very strong, the same goes for your Lightning Release Ryoko and your Fire Release Ely. I have to be honest, when I was told that my team would consist of two eight-year-olds and a five-year-old, I wasn't at all convinced and excited. Now that I've seen you in action, I'm sure we'll make a great team. What do you say I invite you to eat dango in the dango shop?' Another enthusiastic 'Yes!' came from all three of us.
We walked to the Dango Shop together, where we ate and chatted. Sensei Jumo told us what was coming our way soon and what our training would look like. At some point, Ryoko started talking euphorically to our sensei and Nao and I smiled to ourselves.
After we had said goodbye to each other, I walked along the river and discovered a boy sitting all alone on a swing at the playground. Mh... I decided to go to him and sat on the other swing. 'Hello, I'm Ely and who are you?' He looked at me, startled, and seemed to be wondering whether he should answer me. After some back and forth, he decided to answer me after all. 'My name is Naruto Uzumaki.' 'Hello Naruto. What do you say we become friends?' His eyes got really big and started to shine. 'Yes.' We sat together on the swings for a while and talked. There was one thing I couldn't get my head round: why is he so alone? I'd have to ask Kakashi.
When it started to get dark, I said goodbye to Naruto and walked home with a smile on my face. Once there, I found Kakashi sitting in the living room, reading through something. 'Hi Niichan, I'm home.' Kakashi turned to me and greeted me as well. 'Kakashi, can I ask you something?' 'Of course, you can ask me anything.' 'I met a boy earlier, he was sitting on a swing all by himself and didn't seem to have anyone. I talked to him for a long time and we're friends now. Why is everyone in the village avoiding Naruto?' Kakashi looked at me with wide eyes and then looked at the ground. 'Six years ago, the village was attacked by the nine-tailed demon fox. A lot of people died in the attack, including the fourth Hokage, who was loved by everyone in the village. The demon fox was sealed in Naruto. The people are afraid.' I thought for a moment and then got up from the floor. 'That's no reason. I won't let Naruto fall. He's my friend and I'll try to be there for him as best I can.'
