Chapter 34

Ely POV

'Ely, I heard that you were the one who saved Neji. Thank you!' I turned to Shikamaru in surprise. 'Oh, but I didn't do anything.' 'I don't see it that way. I failed completely as team leader. Everyone was hurt, I was only slightly injured, and we couldn't bring Sasuke back. It was a complete failure.' 'It wasn't. Shikamaru, all the members of the team are back here in Konoha. Everyone will be fine. You can only learn from experience. Take this mission as a lesson and don't give up. It won't get you far. You're a good strategist, but you don't quite believe in yourself yet. You have to change that, and you will succeed.' 'Thank you, Ely. I'll go and check on Choij again.'

After Shikamaru left too, I made my way to Naruto's hospital room. He's going to blame himself so much for not being able to bring Sasuke back. I took another deep breath and entered the room. Naruto was sitting facing the window, completely bandaged up. 'Naruto.' He turned his head in my direction in surprise and looked at me sadly. 'I wasn't able to do it, Ely. I couldn't bring him back. I'm so sorry.' 'You don't have to apologise to me, there's no need to.' I sat down on the chair next to the bed and Naruto and I talked for quite a while. When I was almost out the door, I turned back to Naruto. 'But please say goodbye before you leave for your training, okay?' As I walked out of the hospital, the letter felt so heavy. I had to read it and find out who it was from.

On my way to my favourite clearing, I ran into Kakashi. 'Ely, you're back. Did everything work out?' 'Yes, I was successful. I heard what happened. How are you feeling about it?' 'I'm just glad everyone got back safely. As for Sasuke, I don't know what to make of it yet. Let's talk about it later. Guy wanted to meet with me.' 'All right. See you later.' So, on we go. When I arrived at the clearing, I sat down on a fallen tree trunk and took the letter out of my bag. I took another deep breath and then opened the letter. Oh, the letter was from Sasuke. I was ready for anything. My emotions were so varied, from anger to surprised. So, I took another deep breath and then read it.

Ely,

I don't know how many times I've said your name without anyone knowing it. It rolls off my lips so naturally. You're not like all the other girls our age and I've always admired that. Your eyes always sparkled so beautifully when you talked to Naruto, and he made you laugh. I was always jealous that I could never see that when we talked. Your fiery red hair looks more fiery the angrier you are. It magically attracts me. I didn't want to fall in love, this is just a waste of time. What an idiot I am.

By the time you read this letter, I'll have left this damn village behind me. My path will make me stronger. I'm not going to rely on these hypocritical idiots. Every single one of them is responsible for my suffering, for the death of my entire clan. I will take revenge. I will take revenge on Itachi and then on the village. My family, my clan was taken from me and the village did nothing. Nobody did anything.

We will meet again!

Sasuke

I was so angry and realised my eyes were starting to burn and knew that my Mangekyō Sharingan had just activated. First to write something so 'nice' and then this. We will meet again and if we will and I don't think you, Sasuke, would want it that way. I will not allow my friends to be hurt any further.

Mark my words: If I meet you before Naruto, I will show you no mercy. You're crying because your clan was killed, but my parents were killed in cold blood by your oh-so-beloved clan. We will meet again, Sasuke Uchiha, and you will feel the power of my Sharingan!
