The Tale of Ely Senju

Chapter 2

A few days later, I had to leave Ely alone with Might Guy. Unfortunately, I didn't have any other choice because he had been talking to me about it for some time. He wanted to look after the little one, it shouldn't be that difficult. Let's see how he does when I get back home. I was able to complete the mission quickly and was on my way home when a happy, laughing Ely came running towards me. But it was only Ely running towards me, where was Guy? When Ely reached me, she jumped into my arms. 'Niichan.' 'Hello Ely, what are you doing out here? Shouldn't Guy be with you?' With a giggle, she answered me, 'Sleeping.' So, I walked to our house with Ely in my arms. In the living room I saw Guy lying knocked out on the floor. What was going on here? I put Ely on the floor, and she just grinned mischievously to herself. It wasn't long before Guy woke up from what Ely called his slumber. I looked at him with a questioning but also slightly annoyed look. 'Shouldn't you be looking after Ely? You really wanted to do this.' Guy looked at me with wide eyes, stood up and grinned. 'I did, until she knocked me out. Ah, the power of youth. I'll be happy to look after her again.' With that, he walked out of the house, and I was sure he wasn't going to look after her again. If she could knock him out already, I didn't want to know what would happen when she got older. I knelt down next to Ely and looked at her with a questioning look. 'How did you manage to knock Guy out?' She put a finger to her chin and thought. 'Mh... with my fist.' 'He wanted to show you taijutsu.' She nodded in response. It was obvious that he would try that. I would have to encourage her to do a little training session so that I could find out how she managed it. I was torn from my thoughts by the grumbling of Ely's stomach. 'I'll make us something to eat, how does that sound?' With bouncing steps, Ely went into the kitchen and waited for me there. It was nice to have someone with me again who was happy when I came home after a mission. After the death of my father and my team- mates it was very lonely, but now I have Ely, and she has started to fill the hole quite skilfully.

Several months have passed since that day and incident and Ely celebrated her fourth birthday a few days ago.

I was just sitting with the Hokage in his room because he wanted to discuss something important with me. 'Kakashi, there's something I wanted to talk to you about. I've noticed over the last few weeks how strong and intelligent Ely is for her age. She's also found some kunai and thrown them at certain targets, plus what you told me about the situation with Might Guy. I think we should let Ely go to the academy. I'm starting to think she's underwhelmed by everything and needs a challenge.' 'I think that would be a good idea. She'll like it, I hope. I'll talk to her about it and then I'll let you know.'

After the conversation, I went back home to talk to Ely about the idea of letting her go to the academy. As soon as I walked through the door, Ely came running towards me. 'Niichan. You're home.' 'I am. We need to talk about something.' Ely looked at me with a questioning look, but still walked into the living room and sat down on the floor. 'Have I done something wrong?' I quickly raised my hands in defence and smiled. 'No, you didn't do anything. Lord Third gave me the idea that you should go to the academy. He thinks you're bored and underchallenged. How would you feel about going to the academy?' I looked closely at Ely's expression, but at just four years old, she already had a perfect poker face. 'Mh... I want to go to the academy. I'll learn even more there.' With a big smile on her lips, she jumped up from the floor and threw her arms around my neck.

So, the day came when she would go to the academy. She grows up so quickly, far too quickly.
