Chapter 30

Ely POV

Several days had passed since my nightly visit to Sasuke's hospital room and I was sitting at Ichiraku's with Naruto. 'Are you looking forward to the next mission?' 'I'm so looking forward to it!' 'Naruto, swallow your food first and then talk. Don't talk with your mouth full.' I shook my head briefly. He's unteachable. 'Do you know where your next mission will take you?' 'I think to the Land of Tea. But I'm not really sure.' 'Naruto, that's no way to prepare for your missions.' 'It'll work out.' I already felt sorry for Sakura.

After the delicious noodle soup, I was now standing in Tsunade's office. 'You wanted to see me?' 'Ah, that's right. Ely, I have a mission for you.' 'For me? Alone?' I looked at Tsunade in disbelief. I'm already a jonin and part of the ANBU, but a mission all by myself, does she still have all her wits about her? 'Oh, not alone. You're accompanied by an experienced jonin. Where is he?' Tsunade looked around briefly. Who was she waiting for? 'Tsunade, if you don't mind me asking, but who is this jonin?' 'Oh, that would be Kakashi Hatake. But he seems to be running late.' 'Oh, that's nothing new. Kakashi is always late, and his excuses could be better. Don't look at me like that, I've been living with Kakashi since I was a few hours old and that's never changed.' So, we'll wait for the jonin who is always late. Poor Tsunade, she's already annoyed that he's late. 'Before Kakashi turns up here, I have something else to tell you. The mission consists of two parts. You and Kakashi will do the first part together and you'll have to do the second part on your own. This scroll tells you what the second part involves and what you have to do.' I took the scroll and put it in my bag. 'I'll do my best.' With a loud sigh, Tsunade looked at me. 'Ely would you head towards the gate already. If Kakashi shows up here, I'll send him straight to you and the mission can start.' 'All right. I'll be on my way. I'm sure Kotetsu and Izumo will be happy to have someone to talk to.'

I said goodbye to Tsunade and walked towards the gate, where Kotetsu and Izumo were sitting in their dugout, bored as usual. Then I had an idea. I teleported behind the two of them. 'Now that's what I call work enthusiasm.' 'AHHH!!!' They both cried out and turned abruptly to face me. 'Ely, you can't do that to us old men.' Old men, yes yes. Plop and Kotetsu was already lying on the floor. 'Look, his heart's not in it.' 'Oh, you two are such drama queens.' I bent down to Kotetsu and poked him in the cheek. 'Ouch. Ely, that's not nice.' 'I told you drama queens.' I just shook my head slightly. Now both of them were looking at me, scratching the back of their heads and with a red flush on their cheeks.

Tsunade POV

How Ely can stand it. A knock snapped me out of my thoughts. 'Come in!' The door opened and the jonin of the hour stepped inside. 'Ah, good that you made it here too, Kakashi. Ely has already gone to the gate. We've been waiting for you for some time. What do you have to say for yourself?' 'Oh, I had to help an old lady cross the street.' I could only shake my head. Ely said he only had three excuses, and this was one of them. I told Kakashi what was going to happen on the mission and what the two of them had to do. He said his goodbyes and I stood at the window and looked outside. Lee's operation must work. Naruto and Ely trust me completely. I know that Ely could probably do this operation too, but I was the Hokage and in a way I still have to prove myself.

Ely POV

I was now standing in front of the dugout and was talking to the two of them when I felt Kakashi's chakra. 'Did you run into a black cat, did you help an old woman cross the street or did you get lost on the path of life? Kakashi looked at me with wide eyes and scratched the back of his head, embarrassed. 'How?' 'I've known you for eleven years now. I know all your excuses, they're always the same.' 'We should get going. It's a slightly longer way to our starting point.' 'Bye Kotetsu. Bye Izumo.' I waved to the two of them and then Kakashi and I disappeared from the village.

Let's see what my first mission with Kakashi will be like and what exactly awaits us.
