Ely POV

About four years later

Around four years have now passed since our mission against the ninjas from Kirigakure. The time shortly after the mission was a little more difficult for Nao, as the deaths of the two teams really affected her. Ryoko threw himself straight back into training and I also continued to train under Kakashi. Over the last four years, we have carried out many different missions as a team. Some were simple D-rank missions and then there were some B-rank missions. Naruto hasn't changed either. He still grumbles about that idiot Sasuke and still fancies Sakura. He's also still playing pranks rather than worrying about his grades. I try to help him as much as I can, but sometimes I feel like I'm talking to a wall. Sensei Jumo was on an important mission with other jonin about a year ago, but unfortunately didn't return from it alive. Nao, Ryoko and I go to his grave together every day and lay flowers on it. I was promoted to jonin a few days ago. I still haven't been able to talk to Grandpa Sarutobi about Shisui and Kakashi hasn't really been able to tell me anything about it either.

Now I'm sitting in my favourite clearing, watching the play of light on the lake, when suddenly Naruto comes running towards me. 'Ely, Ely, look!' I took a good look at Naruto and saw the Konoha headband. 'Oh, Naruto, you did it. I knew it! I'm so proud of you.' I jumped up and hugged him. ''Hee hee. Thank you, Ely. You always believed in me.' He scratched the back of his head sheepishly but grinned from ear to ear. ''Well, I'm curious to see which team you'll end up on and who your team members and sensei will be.' 'Oh yes, I'm curious about that too. Hopefully Sakura will be on my team, but not that blockhead Sasuke.' Let's hope he's not too disappointed. 'Fancy a tasty noodle soup. It's on me.' 'Oh yes. Let's go.' Naruto took my hand and literally dragged me behind him.

After the delicious noodle soup, I made my way home, where Kakashi was already waiting for me. 'Ely, there you are.' 'Hi Niichan, I was eating noodle soup with Naruto. What's up?' 'I've been assigned a new team.' Once again, a new team, so far no one has managed to pass Kakashi's test and all have been sent back to the academy. 'Who's on your team?' 'I need your honest opinion on what you think of the constellation. My team consists of Sakura Haruno, Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha.' I couldn't help but laugh. 'I feel sorry for you. Okay, my honest opinion... Sakura has a crush on Sasuke and hates Naruto. Naruto has a crush on Sakura and hates Sasuke. Sasuke, let's be honest, doesn't like either of them. Teamwork is difficult for the three of them. Naruto wants to prove that he is better than Sasuke and he wants to be seen. Sakura is more concerned about Sasuke and what he might think of her than anything else. Sasuke is arrogant and thinks he's better than the other two. But I think that once they understand what's going on, the three of them can become a good team. Don't give up on them just yet.' 'Wow, that's some information. Thank you, but how do you know all this?' 'Observation and I can put a lot of things together. The evening went very quietly and Kakashi and I talked about some training methods and his new team.

I was curious to see whether the three of them would pass Kakashi's survival training and so I sat waiting at home. Let's see what he has to say. I heard the door open and Kakashi came walking into the living room. 'The three of them passed and you were right with your opinion.' 'That makes me happy. Naruto must have been very happy.' 'Oh yes. I'm going to lie down, tomorrow we have our first mission as a team.' Naruto won't be happy at all about all the D-rank missions. He'll probably have to go through with it.

A few days later, Kakashi and Team 7 were on their first mission outside of Konoha. The four of them will be travelling to the Land of Waves. I can't wait to hear what Naruto has to say. Team 4 and our new sensei are going on our first mission in this constellation today. We're currently waiting for our sensei and had time to chat. 'Ryoko, Nao, I still have a bad feeling about our new sensei. Nobody really knows him.' 'Ely, your gut feeling has never let you down so far. Ryoko and I aren't exactly thrilled about our new sensei either.' 'That's true. There's something weird about this guy. We have to be careful. Ely, Nao, no matter what, we'll stick together.'

Together with our new sensei, we made our way to our meeting point. We suddenly found ourselves alone in a clearing. Our sensei had disappeared. 'Guys, I can sense at least 30 different chakra signatures, at least chunin level.' Nao and Ryoko nodded, and we got into formation. As soon as we got into formation, we were immediately attacked. We had been led into an ambush.

Each of us took care of 10 attackers. Ryoko took out his with Lightning Release and a combination of Shuriken and Wind Release. Nao was able to finish hers off with Taijutsu and her Wind Release. My opponents learnt about my Fire Release and my taijutsu skills. We had made it.

From behind me, I suddenly heard the voices of Ryoko and Nao speaking at the same time. 'We're sorry, Ely. We didn't see it coming.' I slowly turned round and when I saw my two best friends, my breath caught in my throat. This couldn't be happening. Who did this to them. I have to heal them. 'It's okay, Ely. Don't waste your chakra on us.' They both hit the ground at the same time with a thud. I knelt down between them. 'I can't leave you lying here like this. I have to heal you.' Ryoko took my hand in his and looked from Nao to me. 'Our wound is far too deep. Don't waste your chakra.'
