Chapter 23

Ely POV

The next few weeks were relatively quiet for me. I first watched Naruto train with Ebisu. Ebisu, I don't really like this guy, well, he wasn't really friendly towards me at all when we first met and then when he found out that I was the great-granddaughter of the first Hokage, he was suddenly totally sweet. I don't like him at all. Either you like me because of me, or you can go screw yourself!

At some point, Jiraiya took over Naruto's training. Jiraiya may be a pervert, especially when it comes to these books, but he knows a lot about training, and I think Naruto will learn a lot from him. When I wasn't watching Naruto train, I was doing something with Sakura. She's become a good friend and I'm glad I got to know her. I also watched Kakashi and Sasuke train from time to time and I have to say that Sasuke has also made some progress.

The final round was now only a few days away and I was currently on my way to an ANBU mission, and I probably wouldn't make it back in time for the final round. Before I left for my mission, I wished Naruto and Shikamaru good luck. This was my first solo mission as an ANBU and I was to observe the border between Konoha and Suna, as it was suspected that something was being planned. I stood at my post, my Sharingan activated, and observed what was happening at the border. I couldn't have been given a more boring mission. I would have much preferred to stay in Konoha and watch the final round, but someone had to take over this mission too. Well, the next few days were pretty much the same and accordingly very quiet.

At the end of my mission, I made my way to Konoha as quickly as possible and what awaited me at the entrance gate did not bode well. A huge snake was making life difficult for some shinobi and, if I interpreted it correctly, there were also Suna nins standing on the side of the snake. What was going on here? I formed the finger signs for the summoning technique and summoned Taka. "What can I do for you?" "You see that snake there? Destroy it!" Taka took off straight away and took on the snake. I drew my short sword and went into battle against the Suna nins that were there. They were really good, but we were better. Without having to use ninjutsu or genjutsu, we were able to defeat the Suna nins. I then turned to the rest of the shinobi. "Are any of you injured?" "Yes, one of our teammates is lying next to the gate, he was badly injured."

I ran straight to him and looked at the wound. It wasn't life-threatening, thank God, so I started to heal him. After I finished healing him, I turned back to his teammates. "I was able to heal him. But he's still unconscious. You need to take him to the hospital. I'll look around for more injured and enemies." "Thank you." They took their comrade and disappeared. I looked at Taka, who was clearly enjoying the duel with the snake. "Can you speed this up a bit, Taka?" With that, I ran on. I had to somehow make it to the arena where the final round was to take place.

Taka was now flying next to me in a smaller form. "There's a weird dome up ahead, if you want, I can fly over there and see what's going on." "That would be good. Thanks Taka." Taka now flew towards this barrier, or whatever it was, and I continued walking through the streets. On my way towards the arena, I now found myself surrounded by enemies. Mh... What could I do best now? Snake → Dragon → Rabbit → Tiger "Fire Release: Dragon Fire Technique" Okay, that was really too easy. I concentrated on the chakra signatures around me, but didn't find any chakra signatures of enemy shinobi. That was odd.

It wasn't long before Taka came flying back and I saw that the barrier had disappeared. "Taka, what was going on?" "The third Hokage fought Orochimaru. I'm sorry. Unfortunately, the third Hokage died. He didn't survive, but before he died, he managed to seal the function of Orochimaru's arms." Silent tears ran down my cheeks. Grandfather Sarutobi...
